The wife wins hands down. I can replace my Explorer. I can't replace my wife.. When she called me after rolling my '92 she apologized for rolling it. My first question was "are you ok?" answer "yes". Second question "is my daughter ok?" answer "yes". After that, the truck doesn't matter as much. :)

I'd pick my girlfriend over my Explorer. Just like what Jeff said, you can replace something materialistic, but not a person's life and I truely believe that. So I'm picking my girlfriend. I love my Explorer but I love my girlfriend much much more. http://members.aol.com/riffman80/smile.gif

well its been several months since I"ve bought anything for my Explorer. Does she complain about it? Nope. In fact it's been a while since I"ve ever taken her for a ride. Once again, no complaining. She doesn't get jealous when Im driving my newer model F-150 instead of her. She doesn't get upset if I don"t tell her her constantly how beautifal she is. I could either spend lots of money on her or none at all, shes content either way. She doesn't mind when I fantacize about other vehicles while driving her. Occasionally when I get really upset with her, I can kick her or hit her and not feel bad about it. I never have to have a "heart to heart" with hte Explorer. I never have to worry about her cheating on me. I never have to worry about her pretending to be happy then all of a sudden dying on me. She's content with staying outside in the backyard and doesn't complain when I'd rather go to hooters with the guys then spend time at home with her. My vote? THe explorer :)

Well - seeing as my wife would care how I vote and my Explorer wouldn't - I vote wife. Besides, if I voted Explorer I would then have 2 eX's...;)

The Explorer of course..... since I don't ever plan on getting a wife uuhh ever.... and well..... I have many friends and they can always be replaced with new ones.... lol now if you had asked specifically wife/husband girlfriend/boyfriend..... I don't know... I'd have to think long and hard abou that one.....my boyfriend complains that I go out and get things for my truck more than his Ranger.... lol but I must love him ...I got him a brand new winch for xmas

Well I'll let you know. If you have seen what our Explorer looked like when we started you can see we can fix another Explorer, but it is really hard finding a wife that will put up with me and my toys.

Matt might like his Explorer, but it's a lot more fun wheeling with someone in the truck with you and the wife does a lot better job keeping me warm at night if you know what I mean. LOL

I voted for my girlfriend (just some things an Explorer can't do for me), but if you asked her she'd probably say I voted for the Explorer. :) She gets quite jealous of it sometimes and constantly thinks I'm crazy for spending all my money on it. She just doesn't understand...

Edit: Two years later with a different truck and a different girlfriend. She'd say I'd pick the truck to joke, but she knows I'd pick her. Great thing about this girl is that she likes my truck and thinks wasting so much money on it is a good thing! :)

On big reason, she understands why I spend money on my Explorer and she enjoys it just as much as I do.

It is a lot more fun taking the wife or girlfriend wheeling then going alone I would think.

That's another reason I voted for the wife. She loves going 4 wheeling, and is into it as much as I am.

well I missed most of the responses yesterday and I probably will today too, I've been installing hardwood floors... ugh! ANyways, if I ever found a girlfriend/wife that was truly interested in the same hobbies and so forth I'd take the girlfriend/wife over the explorer any day. So far I've had pretty bad luck. Girl number 1 was last year around Christmas, mentioned she liked four-wheeling, loved working on cars, and was even working on restoring an old bronco. Very cool I thought. I took her wheeling on saxon road (which for those that have been on it, its KIND of a shelf road but theres almost almost enough room for two cars to pass by each other so its not like some shelf roads around here. She freaked out and just about started crying, I had to turn around and take her back. Then she was over at my house one day while I was working on the explorer and I said "can you hand me an 18 mm wrench?" so I tighten down something or other while I was under the vehicle. She said "whats an 18 mm wrench?" oh yeah, winner right there!
Lets see, girl #2 also mentioned she was into four-wheeling and the outdoors, but was truly extremely lazy and hated getting out into the daylight for any circumstances whatsoever except to drive to work and school.

SO as you can see, I've not had the best of luck with the female variety. And I haven't met a great number of them four-wheeling either so I'm kinda SOL and taking the Explorer over the girlfriend :). SO far I haven't had to choose though, the decision has been a simple one.

Ain't hardwood fun??? I did it in our old house, and we're going to tear up the carpet and put down hardwood here too. I think this time I'll go with the pre-finished hardwood (NOT Pergo!). No sanding!!

As for the wife vs. truck, I hope you find one that likes trucks. When you 1st responded, I was gonna ask if you were divorced or single, cause you would have been after that one! :)

hardwood isn't fun until its done, then you look back and go "that wasn't so bad" :). We've got our huge room about 2/3 installed and that took two days, we haven't even started sanding and finishing yet! I don't think I've been this soar in a long long time :).
Anyways, back to the subject at hand, I am quite happily currently single. Never married, never engaged, never pre-engaged, nothing. Justg a happy player, LOL

You gonna use an orbital sander or a drum??? I did my first one with a drum, and switched to orbital for the rest. It seemed to make the floor a lot smoother. Took longer, but I thought it looked better. Next floor I do is our bedroom (300 sq. ft.). The builder installed cheap carpet and it's driving our allergies crazy.

Just anytime you go wheeling you would have to say she is working or out of town on a business trip or something like that. LOL

if it's a woman or it's got wheels it will give u problems the explorer just doesn't give me as many problems

Not sure how far you live from Rick, but you need to get together and go on a trail with him. Then your girlfriend would know the difference.

Teri used to be scared of wheeling, but with the Explorer she says it is different and she likes it. Maybe it is because we used to wheel with a 61 pickup with no good suspension. Now we go over a bump and you don't notice it half the time.

she has gone with me rock crawling but she complains about not going fast enough ,but at least she likes to go ride dirt bikes she thinks that her xr 200 is the fastest thing ever produced. maybe if i just show her ricks she will have a new respect for the rocks

Hey, I think that's enough of this "troy bashing". She's just high maintainance, but worth the trouble;) What am I going to have to do to prove this? I chose my explorers.

1) When all is said and done owning, insuring, maintaining and feeding 2 explorers is still more affordable than one girlfriend.
2) The only emotional output I have to put up with is the glaring check engine light, easily solved by removing the light bulb when I get tired of seeing it.
3) They don't wake me up at am due to being scared, hungry, cold, lonely, etc.
4) With the exception of the check engine light they don't play mind games with me.
5) They are more dependable than a girlfriend.
6) Girlfriends don't have air conditioning.
7) When I have a question about them I don't have to go to their best friends.
8) They don't complain that 95% of my internet time is spent reading this forum.
9) EXPLORERS DON’T TRY TO SUE YOU.

Anyway just my answer and my reasons, I cant wait to hear the blasting I get for this.

between girlfriend/wife/explorer, I pick girlfriend........hope my wife doesn't get too mad....hehehe

And chose hime because he introduced me to fourwheelin. I can't believe how long I lived with out it! (fourwheelin;) ) He didn't like that I picked the Explorer w/out him, but now he helps me install cool stuff in it! Can't beat that with a stick. Plus, I don't think I could ever put a value on him or trade him in!

As for all you guys who have had such bad luck with the ladies...OUCH...you sound bent. Sorry about your bad luck. But don't let those few off the wall girls soil ALL of our reputations. I LUV 4x4n, outdoors (and I mean it) helping work on the trucks, helping to install siding and windows as side jobs...kinda tom boyish, I know...but what can I say? I have found my perfect match! I didn't like that stuff until he came along, and I don't think its the stuff I like, its the part about being with him I like so much.

Its funny that most people on these sorts of threads on these sorts of BBS's always choose the same. The real debate is a living breathing companion over a big pile of metal. I wonder what the benifits of either one is.

Companion. You can go home talk to them. They talk back. Makes life intresting.

Metal. You can talk it it. Not going to talk back. You look stupid. :)

Companion. Will be there the rest of your life if you choose to do it that way.

Metal, its possible but its going to cost you more $$ and frustration then a person would just to keep it going.

I think everyone needs to find a medium. Its very obvious to me that most people who say My way or the Highway type of attitude are people just looking for a f%%% partner, not a g/f or wife. Now if its a joint venture then you have a healthy fun relationship, but if its one of those gotta spend money on the truck and nothing else then its not. Its an adiction like other things in life.

I know some people have just not had good look with others, so this really does not pay to you. You always have to find someone with common intrests otherwise you will always be tugging at each other for silly reasons.

There are lots of people out there that spend every living moment trying to keep that machine running. Is it really worth the trouble? Why bother always working on the same thing ALL the time? Specially when it really comes down to the fact that you could be missing out on a lot of good things in life. For example, lets say some weekend you work on your truck all weekend, and hurt yourself end up in the ER and spend your day that way. Just to tweak the vehicle. When instead you could have worked on it for a few hours, gone and done something like take that someone out to eat (Some people would never consider doing this) and just have a fun time with someone else. I guess I don't really see this as black and white. I see it as have your cake and eat it too.

There is no reason why you can't have any fun with your Explorer and someone else there with you. You just have to know when to draw that line and realize MY GAWD THIS IS STUPID TO WASTE THIS MUCH TIME AND ENERGY ON SOMETHING THAT I GET NO RETURN OUT OF. Thats sorta what I said when my truck kept breaking down even though I was working on it almost every weekend. It became not worth it. :)

Well, I'm not really any older than you are, so you seem rather enlightened compared to a lot of the guys in my age range that I spend time around. I guess you're right about giving lessons . . . maybe other guys can learn from your example though.

I think its more out of watching people destroy what to me is a good life for an object that is pretty inanimate. That and watching what they get out of it in the end. I realize that you can in fact spend just as much money on a person, however you will get a return out of it.

Most guys who have the train of thought of my way or the hi-way are only looking for one thing from girls anyway. Lets just say I will leave it at that. Because if you really cared for someone like you say you do, you would either try and include them, or just adjust the way you live to make them feel like they get the attention you would want out of them.

Any guy can act this way, it just takes a little bit of consideration on his part.

Lets just say I have heard stories from some girls/women that have been in these sorts of relationships where its more important to spend $ on a truck then on anything else in that girls life. It really screws with their sense of worth after a bit. Really badly too.

I've been getting all those e-mail updates for this thread, but never read it. I finally decided to read it.

When I first voted, I chose my girlfriend after thinking about it a lot. She was quite mean to me back then and thought I was an idiot for spending so much money on my Explorer, so I had to think a little. She had also never been 4 wheelin' so she automatically deemed it for stupid and immature males and considered me one of them for liking it so much. Whenever I asked her to go she would always say no and get all pi$$ed off when I told her I was going whether she went with me or not.

Now things are soooo different. I made my girlfriend go with me to GWNF a couple of months ago and she ABSOLUTELY LOVED it. She was scared to death at first (so was I), but after a little bit she was having a great time. She now WANTS to go wheelin' every time I get a chance and LIKES it when I buy stuff for my Explorer to make it a better off road machine. She has even went so far as to actually pay for everything we did for a couple of weeks so I could save for a brush guard.:eek:

My advice for you guys who cannot get their girls to understand: MAKE her go with you one time. Show her what she is missing out on. Maybe you'll luck out like I did. Be careful though, mine likes it so much she keeps wanting me to let her drive!:eek::eek::eek: I don't think my nerves could handle it though.:nono:

I will always pick the girl friend first. I never keep a car/truck for long. Hopefully the girl friend will. But too be fair to the ladies....you need too add too this poll and see which they want too keep the most.

My wife wanted the Explorer!! Cant beat that. From my angle there is nothing like her getting her nails done and me sitting in the X watching a movie on the DVD player.
