View Full Version : Explorer 4x4 Quick Help (Was Photos)
leebo 12-07-2000, 03:13 PM I would like to start off be welcoming all the new members to the site. No matter what you've done to mess up your truck or improve your truck....it's been done here. We're here to help you out no matter what you're doing.
Undoubtedly becoming an Elite Explorer (http://www.explorer4x4.com/elite.html) is the best way to get photos on to this site. With an Elite membership you can post an unlimited number of photos directly to threads you participate in, use our Explorer Photo Gallery (http://www.explorerforum.com/data/) and our VbGarage (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/vbgarage.php?do=list) . If for some reason you cannot afford the $20 to become an Elite member follow the directions below.
1. Put the file on to your computer. I found it best to save it as a jpeg but it's not needed.
2. Log onto photopoint.com
3. Once logged on click on the "upload photos" icon. I found it best to use the "easy upload" way of uploading photos so click on that one. After you get it all down you can use which ever you wish.
4. Click on the "brouse" button and select the file you wish to upload. You can do this for up to 4 files if you wish.
5. After the files are listed click on the "upload files" button and wait.
6. Once it is finished a screen will show up saying that the files are now uploaded. They will show up in the "incoming album" folder.
7. Click on the "incoming album" button and then click in the little box next to all the photos you like.
8. Next click on the "move or copy selected photos" box. In you're case it would be best to move it into the family album.
9. Go into the family album and click on a photo and wait for it to load. The photo is now uploaded to the net.
The steps above are to get it on the net. You can now do whatever you wish to do. The steps below are to show the photos on http://www.explorer4x4.com board.
10. On the bottom of the screen you will see a box saying "would you like to include this photo in your online auction? Use this url"
Copy that url
11. Go to the thread on the board you wish to post the photos on or start a new one of your own.
12. To post the photo on the board just put [ img][ /img] in front of and behind the url you copied (but do not use spaces - I had to or this post would have looked for an image). It should look like this once your done.
your...url....here.....
Also....if you wish to post a photo without using photopoint, or without getting the Photopoint "banner" on top of the photo go ahead and upload it to the web, or double click on the photopoint one so that it's the only one on the screen. Once there, go ahead and right click on the photo. You will then see a properties selection. Click on that and copy the URL address. Just make sure there is a photo type of file(jpeg, php) and then post it with the [img}{/img] around it here for a post.
Hope this helps. If you need any more help send me an email and I'll get right back to you. If you really get fed up email me the photo's and I'll upload them to the net for you.

leebo 01-01-2001, 01:24 PM Just a few more tips for everybody here. Several people have been wanting to put a link to their site in the signature. To do this you can go ahead and copy this and go ahead and fill in your own info.
[ur l=http://www.yoursitehere/showthread.php?threadid=15260/showthread.php?threadid=15260]yournamehere
If done correctly it will look like this
yournamehere (http://www.yoursitehere/showthread.php?threadid=15260/showthread.php?threadid=15260)
You will need to go ahead and take out the space between the R and the L in the first URL. I did that so you can see the post.
Once again...if you have any problems go ahead and give me yell and I'll do anything I can do to help you out.

leebo 01-02-2001, 12:42 AM I've now received a few emails on the smilies.....here they are. Just go ahead and copy/paste the code into the post of your choice. You will need to once again take out the space between the M and the G in the first IMG.

leebo 01-06-2001, 02:51 PM Just another quick tip from a great idea from Camaron.
If you're like me, one of the things that brought you to the board is a problem. The Explorer is a great SUV, but just like anything it has it's problems. Be it a bad MAP sensor, or the lack of 4x4 parts there was something that brought you to the site. The first thing you should do is go ahead and perform a search for the topic you are looking for. There are several threads and replys that have been done and odds are that will answer your question. If not, go ahead and look through the different forums and decided which one of the forums most pertains to your question. If you have a question about why your truck won't start, post it it "Under the Hood", if it's about which light to get, go to "Performance Lighting". One quick tip, do not post the same question in two different forums. Many of us read just about every post so we will see it.
After you decided where to post at go ahead and click on the "New Thread" button at the top of the screen. Next you will need to give the thread a name. Most often this will almost ask your question. After that type the message you wish to ask or state. Make sure you include any and all details, including what you are asking, year of your explorer, and so forth. Last go ahead and click on the "submit new thread" button and off you go.
Sometimes you will find that somebody has started a thread that asks the question you are looking for or you know the answer to. When this is the case go ahead and click on the "Post a reply" button. Type in the message and click the "Post Reply" button and your off.
Once again if you have any questions or comments go ahead and drop me an email and I'll get back to you right away.
leebo 01-27-2001, 10:38 PM I've noticed a large amount of new members on the site the last few days. I'd like to extend a warm welcome to them all.
One major problem that this site has is the fact that while the members are growing, so are the costs. While Rick and all the Mods have done a great job keeping this site running they are always up against a ton. There are several things that you can do to help. The first two do involve money itself were as the final does not.
First there is the "Elite Explorer". There has been a great "boom" in this over the last few days and I love to see it. The minute I got the email I signed up right away. Check out this link for what you get and what it will do for the site.
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/announcement.php?forumid=24
If that's too much for your blood, a simple donation will also go great lengths to helping the site. Rick has set up a "Pay Pal" account and accepts checks to help the site. Just hearing about some of the changes while sitting around the fire at Truckhaven made me realize that this site is about to become one of the best. Here is a link for Ricks "Pay Pal" account. If you're worried about money on the net....don't be. I've used this several times and no problems yet..(knock on wood)
PayPal (https://secure.paypal.com/xclick/business=ab7fh%40inficad.com&item_name=Donation+to+Explorerforum.com+Please+Help+Support+This+Site&item_number=Donation&return=http%3A//www.explorerforum.com)
The last one is the most easy. Be good and try to save bandwidth. Keep your signatures as small as you can. If you have a killer truck and want everybody to see it, set up a web page. If that's not in you make a post in the "Explorer Registry". Also, when you're making a quote that has a photo in it.....cut out the part that has the quote in it. Theres no need to show the same photo twice. It just slows down the site and takes up space.
Just by doing little things like this will help keep the site growing and keep allowing "Serious Explorations" to continue to differ from other boards by keeping it free and fun.
leebo 02-18-2001, 02:04 PM It's me again. Over the last while there has been some HUGE changes. I'm still looking around and working on them myself. For the members that may have been here for awhile you can already see that several things have returned. The biggest is the PM feature. This works like an email. I often used this rather than an email when wanting to talk to somebody. It's so much easier to check in my mine.
You also may notice the calander. Your info will be updated on it when you fix your profile. It's nice to see the age of everybody and when their birthday is. You also can rate a thread with a small box at the bottom of every thread. Do this!! Often many of us scroll through the posts reading some and not reading others. If a thread has a high rating more will read it.
My favorite is the spell check. I think me and mattadams has the worse spelling on the site. It will help everybody out if this is used. Makes you look smarter too. :)
leebo 02-18-2001, 05:42 PM Here it is......a question has been asked about polls. I'm going to go through it as I learn and do it.
Go ahead and start a new thread like you would. At the bottom you will see a option on polls. Click Yes on that, then hit "post". You will then be taken to a screen where you can enter in the info and the question you want the poll to ask. Enter in that info and hit post again. You're off.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
Also if you wish for a free calander from explorer4x4.....drop me an email. Its a snap to do.

btw.... how do I get rid of the aol website that seems to be permanently attached to my signature???
leebo 02-19-2001, 05:56 PM I am not a sweetie. My girl often says I'm cute, and it drives me crazy. So stop it.
Over the last while there have been a large BOOM of new members. I'd like to take this time to give them a few tips that I've learned over time.
First off, give us info. When you put up a post don't say your 4x4 isn't working. Tell us what it's doing, and what you've done to check it. The more info we have the better your odds are to fix it.
Second off, SEARCH. I know the search function isn't working right now. It soon will be. USE IT. When you have a question go to the search hyperlink. Fill in the info and let it do its work. Odds are that it's been talked about before. Theres no need to have 5 threads on floor mats, when they all ask the same question. If you find something that talks about what you are looking for, but you still have questions, post in that thread rather than starting a new one. Not only does it help the site run, but it also help you. Many of us have our options set to get emails when somebody posts in a thread we have posted in. If you post in a thread that has 10 people posting in it you will have 10 people looking at that thread to see whats new. This means that you've got 10 people that maybe able to answer you're question right off the back. If you start a new thread you're rolling the dice and hoping that somebody reads you're post.
Lastly. Here is a page that both new members and elders should read. It has a ton of info, and tips to help you out.
vBulletin Help (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/misc.php?action=faq)
leebo 03-08-2001, 03:31 PM It's little old me again....:) Did you miss me?
For the last while this site has been growing like weeds. How in the world Rick is able to keep up with everything I may never know, but it's the new members that will continue to help keep the site growing and remaining the best Explorer site on the net.
The past few weeks has seen a few add-ons in ways you can help the site. I'd like to touch on those now. One of the easiest ways is to visit the sponsers. Rick has worked long and hard to gain support for the site and these people have stepped up to help. Give these three sites a look and feel free to order from them.
www.carparts.com
www.fordpartsnetwork.com
www.explorerexpress.com
They offer just about anything you may need for the explorer for great prices, plus you'd be helping out the site.
Keeping with the link theme, I've also seen several questions on the specs that the explorer may have. Be it how many MPG should I get, or what gear ratio do I have. Ntrpriz has done a GREAT job of updating his site with all the info you'll need on the explorer. That will answer most of your questions.
http://www.users.qwest.net/~ntrpriz/main.htm
Once again.....any questions......just ask.
mdrut 03-24-2001, 06:11 PM Is there another option to photopoint? Lately I am having trouble accessing their site..Thanx
leebo 03-24-2001, 06:17 PM you always can sign onto "geocities" or another free internet hosting site and upload your pics there. You will need to design a page that consists of the photo you want, and then copy the properties to post the photo. Just put the pic onto the page, load the page onto your screen and right click on the pic. Copy the URL from there and post it like you would with photopoint.
You also can try a search....I've seen a few other sites that host pics for free. I think Kodak and MSN are a few of them, but I'm not too sure. :)
leebo 03-24-2001, 09:51 PM OOPS....anybody who has been watching this thread may of noticed I messed up.....so sue me. It's fixed now.
I'd also like to point out some options that are now able to be used by all the members. First is the "recieve updates on this thread". You are able to use this when you would like to receive an email whenever sombody posts on that thread. It works just like you posted in that thread, but you do not need to post. Works great when somebody has news that may not be out for awhile.
Some of the others are under the profile screen. To get to any of these you must first log on to the board, then click the "profile" button on the top. This screen gives you the options from changing your profile, to starting a buddy list. It's very useful. It's worth taking a look and messing around in sometime to try to get the most out of the site.
Lastly I'd like to once again throw out there that the explorer calanders are always here for the taking. If you'd like to see Ricks truck at Moab, or several other great rigs doing their deeds.....give me a yell. It's free. :)
Stephen S 04-20-2001, 01:18 AM Hey Leebo, is it still possible to get a calender from the site?? I'm interested in one.
leebo 04-20-2001, 10:48 AM Email me to my address. I'll send you the file no problem.

leebo 07-24-2001, 11:00 AM Well.... It looks like it time to add another tip to the old book. :)
As many of you may know PhotoPoint has all but closed down for many of us. They can still be used, but now require a payment to be made. I'll pass. ;(
Several people have switched to FotoTime now. They're site works a little bit different, however most of it is still the same. The best way I've found to upload the pics is to go ahead and download their program. That will allow you to see the pics you wish to upload.
1. Open the program and click Explorer.
2. Go ahead and select the folder that the pics are in.
3. Highlite them and click add to. Then put them in the folder you wish for them to be uploaded into.
4. Click on all. You then highlite the pic and select "Publish Public"
5. Click "sinc with web" and your pics will be uploaded.
6. You'll then go ahead and open the pic that you wish on the web site.
7. Once it opens in a new window, click on the "link" button.
8. Copy THAT link. Don't copy a link for the others. They won't work.
9. Put the [img] }/img] around it..... and you're done. :)
I would send out more Calanders... but I'm not sure what year they're from. But if you want one... Email me. :)
NoBoundaries 07-15-2002, 03:28 PM I just wanted to add a couple of links that may be of great use to some of the new members:
Gerald Jarrett's Explorer Registry Page (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=15264) - Here's some great info for someone looking for some general product and Explorer information, especially for '95+ Explorers.
Be sure to also check out the List of Useful Threads Forum (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=54) - Some of the more helpful threads of information can be found here.

sinasi 11-02-2004, 01:38 AM Hi everybody!!!
I bought my 97 XLT 2 days ago from a dealrship in Indiana. I regreted so much I didn't listened to my wife when she said, "I don't have good feelings about this." Well, the damage is done there is no need to cry about it, right.
Yes, the problem. When I drove it in I the dealership, I didn't notice anything major. However, after we got back to Chicago it started doing that clicking sound whenever i stopped for red light :fire: . It's coming from the AC. It stopes and startes turning again. Besides that, when I put it in 4X4 and I try to turn the steering wheel it jumps the front and also it doesn't reverse:rolleyes: . I showed the car to a mechanic and he said "I need to change the U Joints and it will cost me about $500 including labor, and it will last only about a year." I was very disappointed. I am thinking about selling it right away unless i get some good advice about what to do. I thought this forum would be full of genious people who know how to deal with this sort of problems. I hope someone can come up with a good idea because I already like how it feels to be a Explorer driver. I hate to sell it. Please help
