I have a 98 sport, and I want to take the roof racks off(for looks, and because i never use them). I noticed that ford got the lovely idea of putting and easy way to take the racks off on the 99's, but the 98's are a pain. I think what I have to do is take the cap off at the end of the rails, and slide the racks off, however my screws are in there really good. I used an impact driver and i still couldn't get them to move. Has anyone with a 98, or even a 97 taken their roof racks off, and have any tips on the best way to do it?

there was a thread about this once before. someone with a 98 XLT wanted to remove the rack for looks. after they did the thought that it made the car look cheap and that it wasnt beneficial at all. i say leave it on, gives the sport that unique rugged look.
