Here's a few shot of when I was in Korea. The crew behind me tried to turn the gun around by hand and lost it on a farmer's land.

The cannon below is a 155mm Howitzer and if I remember correctly they weighed about 15,000lbs.

This shot is with the Battalion commander who just happened to be flying over at the time this happened. He was not impressed.

Here is just a shot of one of our ships and us in our staging area. The vehicles in the background were what I drove. They are 10ton trucks with a 5ton load capacity. Six wheel drive with airlocker in the front. I am not sure what the axles where, but I think they were detroits and had with worm drive. I find better photos later. BTW, these were automatics. The manuals were a lot more fun and had a body style much like a Duece.

Those are some cool pics. Were you a driver in the military? I'm in the Air National Guard (totally different from the marines) but I too am a driver! It's cool except we don't have any hummers or anything like that!

Happy trailes!

Ya, I hauled ammunitions for an artillery unit. I was licensed to drive all 5-tons(5-ton is the payload capacity) and HMMV's....and a M1008 which is a Chevy pick-up. I even got a chance to drive some Airforce duece and a halfs with turbos, I loved those things.

The good ole M923. You ever hit someone on the highway with one of those when you were in Korea? I once saw a guy get one stuck in mud and then try to rock it out, word to the wise, when you rock a vehicle that heavy THINGS BREAK. :banghead: I think the axles are rockwells, they look the same as the ones hanging underneath some of these custom high dollar rigs in the mags. But then again maybe the rockwells are the ones from the duece, either way I cant remember its been a few years.

Personally I think the duece is a POS, mostly because of age. There comes a point where its time to throw away the old and get the new. That turbo made a really annoying whining sound and seemed like something was always breaking. On the good side they did have a tons of bottom end torque.

Ya, there was a guy in Truck Company that hit and old lady and she got caught up in the rear axles. I heard it was not a pretty sight.

THe Dueces where cool, I liked the turbo and the ones I drove were Airforce reserve so they were in good condition. Although my friend's duece blew the compressor on the second day.

I bashed a couple of cars pretty good in the 18 months I was there, never hurt anyone which was a good thing. Did your trucks have the CTIS (or did it work if it did have it) I remember the koreans used to love watching the tires go flat.

Being stationed here on Ft. Knox, we see 88M's (<- Truck Drivers)do all sorts Dumb $hit in their HMMV's and Deuce 1/2's and 5 tons. They won't ever pay attention and roll 'em down mountain roads, and hit POV's at stop lights and claim the brakes failed! and all sorts of other stuff. It's crazy what people actually try to do in Military vehicles cause they are "indestructable" (thats what everyone thinks) but these vehicles break down every 5 mins.

Drivers training in the military sucks, I got my license under the table cause they didn't have time to "road-test". Most of the accidents I had were the result of being cut off and just not giving myself enough space. Most people in the military don't take care of the vehicles because they don't own them, the mechanics get frustrated with the operators for being stupid and eventually give up preventive maintenance for fix it when it breaks. I know its sad but that's the day we live in where nobody wants to take responsibility for things.
