View Full Version : 33's dont fit
arsoul 05-13-2001, 07:29 PM To start off, I have 6"s of lift, all suspension. I thought I would have no problem fitting a set of 33x12.5 bfg mts. I thought wrong. Not only am I having to cut the front fenders back over two inches, but I have had to cut the front bumper back as well!
I guess every explorer is different, even if its the same year and model.
Paul Gagnon 05-13-2001, 07:39 PM Do you want to know something really screwy? With my original lift I never had any clearance issues with 33's in front. Last fall I replaced my broken old style Superlift extended radius arms with the new stronger ones and suddenly I am rubbing at the back of the wheel well. Seems to me that either Superlift is making the radius arms shorter now or their production tolerances are way off.
phillip perez 05-13-2001, 08:12 PM I hear ya guys. I have 5.5 superlift with the extended radius arms and I'm rubbing a lot in the back of the front fenders. I got them cut a little but looks like I'm going to have to do more. I also measured the threads on the end of the radius arms because one looked longer than the other and the passenger side is longer than the driver.
Do you guys know if the perry's fab fenders are cut higher and further back so the back wont rub (like now), or just higher and out. The reason I ask is cause I was looking at some pics of them and it doesn't look like it is cut further back.
Clint 05-14-2001, 12:35 AM haha arsoul i can fit 35's lol j/k ryan i know this is a touchy subject for u
phillip perez 05-14-2001, 08:59 PM Can I say that BFG makes a big 33M/T, my tires look bigger than alot of the ohter ones I see driving around.
arsoul 05-15-2001, 08:40 AM you've got to be kidding me. the bfg 33 inch tire has an actual messurement of only 32 inches. i think its one of the smallest 33s around. maybe I'm wrong.
FROADER 05-15-2001, 04:47 PM wow, that kinda sucks. I got 35s on mine with only 4" of suspension lift.
good luck with whatever you can do to make them fit. The true measurement of my 35s is 34.25"
Just cause you're not afraid to chop your truck up doesn't mean you can go around bragging that you've got 35's on 4" of lift. . . j/k
arsoul 05-15-2001, 06:45 PM I'll be finished with the chopping friday. I'll post some pics to show you guys how insane this has been.
One good thing has come out of this... I've lost about 15 pounds up front.
phillip perez 05-15-2001, 06:53 PM Hey arsoul, I just measured my BFGs and they measure what they are suppose to, 33". They are bigger than my friends baja claws and my others friends TSLs. You know what else is kind of funny too, my tires are wider (BFG 33/12.5) than my friends
(BFG 35/12.5), we measured. Maybe I got lucky and got a really big set, if that can happen.
phillip perez 05-15-2001, 07:05 PM Arsoul just looked at you pics, nice light bar. May be you can help me out, and check out my thread in performance lighting, under "will this light bar fit". Thanks
arsoul 05-16-2001, 08:09 AM I dunno phillip, are you messuring your tires while off the vehicle, without rims? I messured mine and I get 32 inches exact, on a 10inch wide rim with 35psi. Maybe they are like explorers, everyone of them is slightly different.
phillip perez 05-16-2001, 11:55 AM I Measured: off vehicle, 10 inch wide rim, and with 35 psi, just as you did, or are saying. Maybe they are like Explorers.
Oh ya, thanks for the light bar help.
