View Full Version : 33x10.50 tire
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 11:43 AM I know BFG makes a 33x10.50 tire and was wondering if there are any other companies out there that make a 10.50? i thought i had seen the TSL's in a 10.50 but i could be wrong. if they do make a 10.50 how loud of a tire are they? they were about $15 cheaper than the 10.50 BFG's. if anyone has any idea if my theory is correct please let me know or if anyone has run or is currently running these tires.
thanks
jimbo74 05-22-2001, 11:51 AM which TSL's? boggers, swampers thornbirds?
all of the tsl's are louder than any of the bfg's
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 11:59 AM i do believe they were the TSL radials.
jimbo74 05-22-2001, 12:03 PM so would that be the radial swampers?...i think the radial swampers are the only ones that come in a radial but i am not sure
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 12:09 PM i'll look into it bc i really wanna go to a narrower tire and rim. and i think the price on the 33x10.50 TSL radial was like $112-$115.
thanks
cableguy 05-22-2001, 01:50 PM Why do you want to go to such a skinny tire? I have 6" of lift and run 33x12.50 tires on 15x8 rims and have no problem with rubbing. The rims have 3.75" backspacing. I wasn't sure if this was your problem (rubbing), but I just thought i would throw my 2 cents worth in.
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 01:58 PM I don't do much offroading and also i figured that the 10.50 would be a better fit for the road rather than a 12.50. i have 8" of lift w/ no rubbing but i just don't need anything that beefy.
thanks
cableguy 05-22-2001, 02:19 PM Cool. A skinnier tire should help out with fuel milage also. I was just wondering. Later.
jimbo74 05-22-2001, 02:19 PM if you are that tall, you need to have wider tires....or youll flip....wider is better...your cg will be too high on such a tiny tire and the wider tire will definately increase your stability and handling!
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 02:35 PM i know the higher u go the wider u need to go, but i don't need such a hefty tire for what i use mine for. i would go w/ a 9.50 but that's really pushing it. something right in the middle should do it for me.
thanks
jimbo74 05-22-2001, 02:46 PM i used to be a tire technician and im telling you that wider is the best. especially with 8 inches of lift. lets see. your truck sits about 10-11 inches taller than stock....you need that extra width. also i would never put a 10.5 on a 10 inch wide wheel. you will blow beads left and right. if you ever air down. that is too wide of a wheel to use with a 10.5 imho
Clint 05-22-2001, 03:16 PM bfg doesn't make a 33x10.50 they do make a 33x9.50 but anyways i say don't listen to them....... get what u want.... go with the 33x10.50 with a 7-8 inch rim
CAC91 05-22-2001, 04:07 PM No, as a matter of fact BF does now make the AT in the 33x10.50 size. I think that would be a great choice for what it sounds like you do. I've been looking at them too. If I had tons of money for a straight axle conversion, I'd get the 12.50s. Too bad the frontend and brakes are too weak to handle them now though. (Whoever says they're plenty strong doesn't drive his Explorer every day and travel the interstate frequently, face it guys)
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 04:58 PM so if anybody is looking to upgrade to a 10" rim and a 33x12.50 tire lemme know. i'm sure i can part w/ the rims and tires i got now since i have another set.
thanks
DR264 05-22-2001, 06:53 PM I have the TSL radials in the 33x10.50 on my stock rims. It's the first mud tire i've owned, so i can't tell you if they are louder than the bfg's. I kind of like the sound though. I payed $123 a tire at Natltire.com.

Dannyboy 05-22-2001, 07:10 PM I could be real interested in your 33x12.5 tires if the price is right. What brand and how many miles are on them
Clint 05-22-2001, 07:11 PM i stand corrected
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 07:25 PM they are Sidewinder Radial Mud Terrains and i have put about 8K miles on them since i bought them used. i say there's about 50% tread life left on them. i have never taken them offroad and i dunno if the guy before me did it much either. u can see a pic of the rims in my profile. i dunno where u live but would 500 plus shipping sound good?
lemme know
thanks
tiessen 05-22-2001, 07:38 PM I have 33x10.5's on my Exploder. 6" of lift, solid axle front. They strike me as a good balance. I get about 1.5 mpg better mileage than 12.5's. Seriously. Wider is better in alot of conditions, but I do great in snow and on the rocks with my 10.5's. I have them on 8" steals with 4" offset. No rub of course. They are a little less stable than 12.5's but I drive to compensate. No racing for me. I figure I'm up about 8" in total and about 4" wider than stock. 12.5's on the same rims would give me 6" wider than stock.
Cheers
Dale
Dannyboy 05-22-2001, 07:42 PM Would you want to sell just the tires? I was looking for a 15x8 rim
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 07:44 PM I would like to sell it all together preferably. what would u offer on the tires?
thanks
Dannyboy 05-22-2001, 07:49 PM If I were to break down this setup I would say
Rims-$75*4=$300
Tires-$50*4=$200
You would still end up with $500. Any clue what either of these retail at new? I was originally thinking $40 a tire and $85 a rim but I realized I that may not make sense if the rims were only like $100 brand new.
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 07:54 PM how would the tires have to be shipped? i have never shipped tires out?
so 200 plus whatever shipping costs right?
thanks
Dannyboy 05-22-2001, 07:58 PM I'll call UPS and find out. GOTTA go to work right now. I'm LATE
offroader_69_me 05-22-2001, 08:03 PM I am intersted in the tires if they are not sold! I am in Trinidad and could arrange somehow to pich them up or something! Let me know what the status is!
Swee294349 05-22-2001, 08:10 PM i'll let u know if dannyboy wants them or not.
thanks
Dannyboy 05-23-2001, 02:59 AM Now Oknut is telling me to go with a 15x10 rim with my set up. I will sleep on it and try to figure it out. It would help if I had a model number and brand of rim. They look like American Racing AR-136's am I right also what kind of shape are they in? Be honest.
Oknut 05-23-2001, 03:32 AM Dannyboy,
In the other thread you were saying that you wanted to stay stable after lifting your truck more. All I was saying is that a 15x10 rim would help out..
In other words I didn't tell you to go with the wider rim, I was telling you that there are other options out there.
Take care,
Oknut
cableguy 05-23-2001, 08:37 AM It's about time to see you buying parts to make that limited trail ready!!!! j/k One thing to remember, the wider you go, the more you have to worry about rubbing the fenders. I don't know if you plan on trimming your fenders any, but you may have to if ou go with a 10" wide rim. I run an 8" wide rim with 6" of lift and have no problem with rubbing up front at all, and you know what I put it through in Attica.
Hurry up, August 20 is coming up sooooooon!
Dannyboy 05-23-2001, 01:48 PM John, Do you think the 3" body lift will eliminate this? How bad did you rub the 35's
cableguy 05-23-2001, 03:42 PM How much lift are you going to put on? A 6" lift or a 4" w/a 3" body would be plenty to run 33's on 8" rims. I don't think I could run 10" rims with my 6" lift. Scott Barrett runs 10" rims but he has around 10-11" of total lift. He could get away with 35"s easy if he were to go with 8" wide rims. As far as my 35's are concerned, they were 14.50" wide on 10" wide rims. There was not way, even with 10" of lift that I could have ever went off road seriuosly. The width of your rim and backspacing is what will determine how much lift you will need. Trust me, I waited almost three weeks to order my rims and tires just because I did't know whether to run 10 or 8" rims and how much backspacing to have. I am not an expert by any means on this situation, but I did a lot of research on rims and tires. If you call just about any of the tire dealers in magazines and tell them what you want to run, they will tell you if it will fit. Any other questions, just holler.
Did you check out my pics on the Attica thread? There's a pretty sweet pic of your "custom" running boards, and my favorite fallen tree!
Oknut 05-23-2001, 08:31 PM I was running 33x14 and a 10 inch rims when I had my 6" lift.. I didn't have any problems, It rubbbed a little bit. And so what, just fix the problem (spaced my bumper out a little bit). I say buy the tire you want and build the truck to match the tire.
Dannyboy 05-24-2001, 07:47 PM I forgot to post this in the beginning. Joey Jones on the Explorer4x4.com feature runs a 33x10 Thornbird, just one to check out.
Cableguy, What backspacing do yours have? I want to be like that or even a little wider but not trash my wheel bearings if possible(so I've heard) & yeah I like that pic a lot. Check out Kampy's pics. My wallpaper on my PC is of you, Sargon and I on the dune. Pretty cool 3 white trucks we look like NASA guys on Jupiter(Or Uranus)
cableguy 05-24-2001, 08:59 PM 3.75" backspacing. I don't have much experience with backspacing, but I don't seem to have any problems with mine rubbing anywhere. ( a little in the rear at full lock ). 8" rims will also put less stress on the wheel bearings. Sumpin to think about! Later
