View Full Version : what kind of spark plugs do you use ? kps36 05-31-2001, 03:32 PM I didn't see one on here, but alot of differing opinions. What brand, why? We all know about the hassle in changing. and my preference. JDraper 05-31-2001, 09:10 PM I use standard Bosch Platinums. See http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28183 for a technical reason why the +4's don't work any better than the regular Platinums. rustytr 06-01-2001, 09:02 AM Factory:D yob_yeknom 06-01-2001, 10:37 AM Because I got the best wires on the market IMO. Champion Truck Wires. I just wanted to get the same brand plugs and wires. rickcar 06-03-2001, 03:20 PM Hmm guess I'm the only one running Autolite Platinums. espnfreak 06-03-2001, 08:03 PM i use bosch 4+ plugs and wires and wiper blades from bosch cuz i get them free from a kid Stephen S 06-08-2001, 07:35 PM I use Motorcraft. JoeC5 07-08-2001, 06:51 PM I use NGK Platinums Trckmagik 07-10-2001, 05:19 PM I added one! I hope you dont mind? You left my plugs out. :) Trapper14 07-13-2001, 05:12 PM I picked up some autolite platniums the other day. what do you think of them???? Fantasymon 07-16-2001, 11:16 PM How do new spark plugs make a difference over factory? Grant-P HenriS 07-30-2001, 04:21 PM Hi out there. Here in South Africa resources are limited and with our currency at an all time low, we look for the best deals! I have just fitted some Autolites copper core due to the Motocrafts being some 6 x more expensive! Could anybody help with the plug gap? I have set them according to Chilton's manual at 0.054". Is this correct? There seems to be some power loss and fuel consumption has gone up, but this could be due to the Emission system playing up, and that is another story! Thanks:rolleyes: 95ExplorerLtd 07-30-2001, 06:41 PM Motorcraft. kevin mahoney 08-21-2001, 11:50 PM Ive used alot of em. The AC Delco Rapid Fires, i think last way longer and offer all the performance THAT you can get from spark plugs. As far as +4's , electricity can only flow one way at a time, so you dont get 4 sparks you get one like the rest. They may last longer due to the four design. BoatsRcool 08-22-2001, 05:54 PM when i took my spark plugs out, to put new bosch platnums in, they were black. but i didnt try to gap the new ones, should i have? kevin mahoney 08-22-2001, 10:44 PM YOU ALWAYS GAP YOUR PLUGS!!!!!!!!!! Most come "PREGAPPED" but you can just imagine how that will go. RTStork 03-02-2002, 04:22 PM Regular Bosch Platinums for me. jonny 5 03-06-2002, 08:27 AM I was thinking about getting Bosch +4s, should I also get new wires? rustymike13613 03-06-2002, 08:30 AM I just installed a set of Autolite platinum pros and a set of autolite wires, seems to run 100% :exp: :yelexp: :redexp: Mark Drysdale 03-07-2002, 06:48 AM NGK Platiniums in mine with Jacobs wires aldive 03-11-2002, 11:40 AM Originally posted by jonny 5 I was thinking about getting Bosch +4s, should I also get new wires? I would rethink the +4s but by all means replace the wires too. Good luck...... jimbo74 04-03-2002, 02:17 PM just bought bosch double platinums..... Dan Whitaker 04-26-2002, 12:17 AM i just installed Champion Truck Plugs with Taylor Spiro-Pro wires. What a hell of a difference this made to my 97,500 mile factory plugs and wires. Iwent with ths Champions because I have never had good luck with platinum plugs and I have never had a problem with Champions. 88vert 04-26-2002, 12:18 AM Motercraft and jacob wires:p Firefighter 11-15-2004, 01:34 PM I still have the stocker's on mine. Don't get Bosch +4's, they're right, they don't work. A couple of people from industry have told me that they don't work any better. For what plugs cost, if they really worked that much better, don't you think that Ford would put them on stock vehicles? Just my $0.02. EBInterceptor 11-15-2004, 02:00 PM I've got the Bosch Plat. +2. Thinking about trying some Denso Iridiums next time around. Otherwise Motorcraft plats. expo5.0 11-15-2004, 02:35 PM i amazed no one has mentioned this yet... but the copper ones outperform all the rest. only reason to use te others is if your lazy and want to never have to change them. spindlecone 11-15-2004, 07:20 PM Question My currant OEM plugs are motorcraft AGSF-22PP, am going to a mild nitrous program next month, all I can reaserch tells me to run a slightly cooler plug to ward off detonation which is understood. Question is: if I stay with Motorcraft plugs what numbers or letters in a plug ID tells one about hotter or cooler expo5.0 11-15-2004, 07:41 PM i'm not sure on that, but absolutely run copper ones. spindlecone 11-15-2004, 07:45 PM Thx Expo But why copper? BeauJ 11-24-2004, 05:31 PM If you get nitrous Spindle, go all out and get some Iridiums. They aren't cheap, but I get absolutely no detonation now. Before with the copper ones when I hit about 9 PSI, I could hear/smell it. They aren't cheap, but very good insurance to have. spindlecone 11-24-2004, 07:20 PM If you get nitrous Spindle, go all out and get some Iridiums. Thx Chopin Who makes the Iridiums? one of my main problems at this point is trying to cross refferance a colder plug to the OEM motercraft plug,i have all the NGK cross referance tables and there tech support says to use an NGK TR6 or a BR7EF if I slightly advance the timeing, am very  on the plug issue. BeauJ 11-24-2004, 07:23 PM NGK and Denso both make Iridiums that fit the heads. The NGK's are a bit cheaper, so you know I got those. Ford_Racing_Guy 11-25-2004, 05:31 PM i'm thinking that i'm gonna change my plugs and wires this weekend, i'm gonna pull the autolites and put in NGK G-power's and then some wires probably from carquest DirtyDog 12-13-2004, 02:45 AM I had NGK Iridiums in my '95 and Nology SilverStones in my '99 Makahveli 12-13-2004, 06:39 AM yeah I have the NGK Iridiums, and it did have great response 92xlt4x4 12-13-2004, 04:16 PM i put bosch platinums and bosch wires. the original plugs and wires were in the x for 105,000 miles. runs a million times better now bode77 01-08-2005, 12:14 AM Just did Bosch Platinum and Bosch Premium wires. Cured my shudder on inclines and even throttle. Course the champion plugs and motorcraft wires had been in there for quite some time. cybercreeper 02-12-2005, 03:11 PM Autolite Platinums here. they run good enough for me..mainly ride from home to work and back. just street riding no off road. B94Sport 03-01-2005, 10:38 PM I bought the Bosch Platinum+4s for the Explorer when I first changed the plugs, then switched to the regular platinums and didn't notice a bit of difference. The STi is still running on the stock iridium plugs. (I should hope so, it's only got 7,500 miles on it.) Crankcase 03-07-2005, 03:47 AM Poll closed. You can still post in the thread. |
