Has anyone heard that some lawyers are petitioning a federal judge to get explorers off the road as they have design flaws?

I live in NY and saw it on the news this weekend. Was wondering if anyone had some info on this.

Let's say it is true and Ford has to recall all the explores, what would happen?

Any information that you might have heard would be great. thank you

yeh i saw the same thing on the news, they are trying to take it to the federal supreme court to recal all explorers. they figured out that the firestone thing wasnt just a problem with the tires it was a major design flaw. if ford recalled all the explorers they would be screwed. they would loose so much money.
if i get my explorer recalled then.... what will i drive?

I doubt this is going to go anywhere. Even if the Explorer is partially at fault, the investigation will take forever, or the power of politics will come into play.

How insane would that be!! I think that my Explorer will be perfectly stable once I get a sway bar back on it that the previous owner pulled off. I have full confidence in my ride even how it is now with 6" of lift and 33" tires. It sways like a boat but I'm hoping to fix that real soon.

besides......for a recall to happen the owner must take it in. If you're happy...just don't take it in. Don't worry though, PLRBEAR is right, the games they play will take forever anyways.

well, i agree it will never happen. I own MY CAR...they cant take it away....they can make a law saying it is illegal to drive them on streets but they cant take it away....

I know they can't take it away, i am just wondering what ford will do.

would they try to make some add on so the truck is more stable (most likely)?
or would they pull them off the road and then pay owners the blue book value (hello bankruptcy)?

seems real odd. Doens anyone rember what happened with the Pinto? I wasn't around then as i am 24.

thanks

the most they may do is add some new sway bars and maybe upgrade the shocks. Just dont count on anything though.

Don't you hate it when layers try to tell me what's best for me. errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

not if they are going to give me new shocks, struts and a more stable sway bar, then i love them.

haha i hope they replace my shocks, mine are shot. i hit a bump on the freeway and i feel like im on a boat.

Yah, Mines lifted 6"s and I need a sway bar bad! I could use a free one. Or mayabe a set of 14" travel King (http://www.kingshocks.com) coil overs shocks with 8" widened TTBs, some extended radius arms with heim joints, and a full cage instead of the sway bar. That would solve my handling problems, make my vehicle really safe for me and my passenger and save me a TON of money. I would probably actually write ford a thank you letter if they did that for me.

I would write them a thank you note as well. Perhaps we should find the lawyers and suggest to them to make those upgrades to make the truck "safer"
that would be great

Did anyone see the Car & Driver blow out test on T.V. They did a blow out test on a '94 Explorer. What they did was simulate a blow out a different speeds all the way up to 70mph. The end result was not the Explorer because it passed the test perfectly. On every blow out it steared perfectly straight even at 70mph.

Well, theres no question in my mind that the weight on the Explorer is not centered. Think of how they lean with a full gas tank. Dont worry though, they'll never get them all recalled.

Just as long as they recall mine and hook it up with a new suspension and sway bars, and while they are at it replace the faulty 4WD motor.

To be honest I wouldn't mind if they recalled my explorer. Dont get me wrong I love my X but I would be able to kiss the $500 a month truck payment good bye.

I actually did go on a date with Marisa Tomei once. It was great. We had a nice dinner, then got loaded. That girl is wild.

Did I forget to mention the next day they recalled all Explorers and gave me $50,000 for it.

What a week!!!

Damn lawyers are freaking sue happy these days. Like a local instance, some dumb hick decided he wanted to make money by shooting down high voltage power lines and salvage the copper in them. Well, the last time the guy did it was when he was wearing steel toe boots. And his brain (for what little he had) popped out of his head. Well, some damn lawyer decided he was going to get the family to sue the power company and the National Park Service. But its also bad the damn family thinks they will win. Can you say STUPID. And the lawyer is probably the kind that gets paid no matter what. Some of you may have seen the story in the "stupid person" section of one issue of American Handgunner a while back.

And if they recall all Explorers, then why not get all older Isuzu Troopers and Suzuki Samuaris off the road????

I like that story about the redneck shooting the copper wires down. That is pure genius. I don't mind if Ford does a major recall of X's. All of ours will get outfitted with new features (hopefully) and their stock will be depressed making it a good time to buy F.

By the way Jenna has a moose knuckle, that thing is hanging low.

That does sound more realistic than a total recall - requesting modifications to the vehicle rather than suing to have them taken off the road.

Moose knuckle...at least you didn't say camel toe. Whoops, I just said it...

now there's 2 threads in the same forum about this, will it actually happen?

what if i want to keep my X, do i have to sign a waiver in case i get killed in it?
