My experience on the night of the 500 years flood:
I had just gotten on the road at 1 AM completely unaware of the amount of water on the roads, it all came so quickly! By the time I hit the first major street it was a serious fight to keep my truck from dying. To be honest, I still don't know how she's running today.
At the first sight of water over the hood I began to get a little spooked. I kept her completely floored but she started to bog down under the stress and pressure. I managed to make it to a high spot in the road, the battle seemed to be over but sure enough, down again into the deeper stuff and she was really hurting... revs dropping below 3 grand but fully floored for over a munite. I was beginning to sweat! The water was coming over the hood again... damn that intake mod! The water started to find it's way into the engine... she bagan to sputter and gasp for air. I made the hasty decision to head for someone's front yard... up over the curb I went, BLAM!, and thankfully onto higher ground. Whew! Stop the truck and take inventory... she's still running although really rough. I decide to get out and check the exhaust... looks ok... lot's of steam but nothing shocking. Open the door and rev her up off the limiter... water starts shooting out of the exhaust!.. bang, bang, bang... time for some coarse words! What was I thinking?!?
After a good 5 minutes of idling and reving she somehow smoothed back out. I only had a couple blocks left to go... what the hell, I'll go for it! Back into 1st, through the grass & back down onto the street. After a good minute of hard labor she got me home and up the driveway we went.
A full inspection revealed that flood water was in the oil pan and steering pump... none in the trans., thank goodness. I changed the fluids but she was still pissed, ran like she was on 3 cylinders. After a week she finally resumed her original character and I haven't had a problem since. I am sooo very impressed with the durability of this truck.
I'm still thanking FoMoCo each day! What a soldier!
