On my 97 I have not seen a LOW FUEL light on the dash. Theres no mention of it in the owners manual either?

Does it exist in earlier or later models?

just wondering

When I'm low on fuel, a light that says "CHECK GUAGE" comes on.

Your '97 should set off the "Check Gage" light when you get dangerously close to running out. This light will come on whenever any of your gauges need attention, including the fuel gauge. My '97 does and I believe it is standard issue. Mine comes on when I have less than 2 gallons of gas remaining, about the time my needle gets to the red area. Explorers with the message center also get an actual "Low Fuel" light in the console.

Thanks!

I guess Ive never been that low. I looked again and did see that but figured it was for a sending unit going bad etc..

FYI.... I have the EB computer that tells me how many mile I have left. The gage light comes on when I have about 30 miles left.

I get the check gauge light. But sometimes I wish that there would be some sort of sound that would go off when the light goes on. Half the time I don't even notice the darn thing until its too late.

Why not then wire an alarm buzzer ( like on marine applications in additional to gauges ) to the light circuit?

I have a wife that says; "You better get some gas in there cause I'm not walking anywhere."
Much more effective than any old idiot light.
You can ignore the light.

I have wondered about this same subject, but have never gotten low enough on gas for anything to have to warn me.
aldive, does the check engine light or a low fuel light come on in yours?

Heh...my ex-girlfriend does that, she starts kicking and screaming when the needle hits the last quarter of the tank. So I have 3 different devices that tells me to fill up: the Check Gage light, the Low Fuel indication on my trip computer, and my ex-girlfriend kicking and screaming. The latter didn't last long unlike the other two, the other two just stays with me forever but my ex...well... :(
