I just bought a new Grant steering wheel and the instructions on instalation are vague. It says nothing about how to remove the stock steering wheel. Some help would be great, I don't want to pay to have it installed. Thanks.

Seems to that you will need only two things to do a good job.
1. Haynes Manual 2. Steering wheel puller.

Be sure to disconect the battery so the air bag dont get ya. The manual will pay for itself many times over...

Well I have a 91 so your 92 should be about the same. There are 2 screws behind the wheel you take out. Then the center of the steering wheel pops off. Undo the bolt in the center. Next you do have to have a puller to get the wheel off. It is a pain, at least the first time I did it. A dead blow hammer might also help. It has been a while since I did this so i may have forgotten something. Good luck!

Only use the grant instructions for installing and a haynes or chiltons(my favorite)to remove stock wheel.
Just be very careful when pulling off the old steering wheel. There is a compressed spring back there when you losen the nut. IT WILL FLY OFF!!!!!!My bloody nose proved that to me.Hope this helps a little bit.

On the topic of steering wheels, would it be possible to put an aftermarket wheel on an X with air bags?

Sure. It is possible to install a wheel without an airbag. The only problem you'd have is trying to convince your insurance to pay when they find out you've meddled with a safety device and some line in the law somewhere.
