I have a 92' Sport 4X4 and black tar looking liquid is coming out of the seams in the factory steering wheel. What is this all about??? How do I fix it? I get this messy stuff on my hands everytime I drive!!! Please Help.

It's the glue that was used to glue the leather to the steering wheel. Mine does that too. Try turning the stitch side down so it's between the opening of your hand or buy a steering wheel wrap and wrap over the existing or cut the stitches, remove the leather, clean out the glue, and re-stitch it.

My '94 did that too for a little while. Mine quit doing it after about a year though. A wrap would be my advice, if you don't want to wait it out.

My 1991 XLT is doing the same thing. I have to wipe down my steering wheel before I drive every day. The problem is definately worse when the weather is hot. I'm getting sick of this! I would think before re-wrapping you would need to seal the old glue in some how. Otherwise it will eventually seep into the new wrap. Anyone else have a solution?

Mine also does that same thing. I am about to get a steering wheel cover to fix that problem.

My first Explorer was a 1992 and I had this problem. I simply removed the steering wheel wrap, reapplied some glue and tightly stitched back the steering wheel wrap. I kept the Explorer for two more years and never had the problem again.

My 91 Explorer Eddie Bauer is doing the same. It has started to leak much worse now that the weather is hot.
Looks like Im going to have to take off the cover clean and rewreap. Has anyone come up with a better solution?

Both my Ex and my Cherokee do the same thing. I got one of thse neoprene rubber wraps and the sticky stuff stays to itself.
