Could somebody explain to me the diff between all wheel drive and 4 wheel drive? what are the advantages and disadvantages and such?

This also depends are you asking the question in general or specific to the Ford Explorer... There are many variations...

I am only concerned about my 200 Ford Explorer. Mine has awd and I just wondered about its usefulness. I bought it with 6500 miles on it about 3 months ago. I love it so far and have not been 4 wheeling yet.

well i only know that v-8 explorers come with an AWD system. the v-6 use control trac on the 95-97's where you can have 2wd at times and switch it 4wd HI or LO but on the 98's+ you cant do doughnuts because as soon as it senses slippage 4wd engages. hope that helps. anyone could add something to my explanation
