This may be a dumb question but I am a newbie when it comes to Explorers. Anyway I got a '94 a few months ago and one thing that bothers me is that I can't find a way to turn the dome light off while the rear hatch is open. I don't even know if it is possible to turn off, but if anyone knows how to do it without complex modification then please help.

I simple way would be to splice into the power wire of the light and put a switch in-line, either up by the light or down on the side plastic piece. It shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes with a switch from Radio Shack.

I am having the same problem and I plan on taking care of it this Saturday. I will let you know how I got it to turn off, If you havent't found a way to do it by then.

With the hatch or rear window open, my interior lights shut off after about 2 minutes of driving. I guess this is a feature of newer Xs.

On 91-94's at least. With the hatch open, reach up and push the driver's side latch closed ( don't pinch yer finger). This will turn off the domes.
A word of warning though...
Don't forget to twist the hatch handle to re-open the latch before shutting the hatch! If you forget, you may jam or break the latch mechanism.
BTW: Eventually, you will forget so you might want to tie a string around your finger or wire in a switch.
