I tried to snag a set of German headlights to improve the woeful DOT approved fitted here but...... long story.
I then fitted a set of Hella Mini driving lights. These come on with the high beams and really fill the road with light.
I had replaced the factory fogs with Catz units. The local dealer wanted $147 per unit for the useless factory fogs.
The Catz cost $180 for the set and fitted in the factory holes in my LTD spoiler.
All in all, a big improvment at night but I miss the 130/80 watt Cibie lights I had on my BMW back in the UK!

Now just put a set of PIAA 9007 headlight bulbs in and you'll miss those Cibies even less.

I actually have part numbers for the German headlamps for the 2001 Explorer, but they aren't U.S. Ford numbers, and I can't figure out where to order in Germany.
Any ideas?

I posted on a German Ford site I found and a guy replied. All was going great when he stopped replying to posts/e-mail so I suspect a scammer. The German headlamps will be much better as German regs. do not require the lights to throw so much light up for signs etc (as per DOT regs.). European low beams have a very defined beam with just a little kick at the extreme end to illumunate the nearside kerbing of the road. High beams throw a much more concentrated beam down the road.

I was told that what I needed was:
> > Hauptscheinwerfereinsatzen (streuscheiben mit haltern), links und rechts,
> > fur rechtsverkehr.
"Main headlamp inserts (lens-reflectors with brackets), left and right,
for right-hand traffic flow."
The part numbers I got from a contact in Germany were:
> > the part numbers for the german headlamps are :
> >
> > right : 3733 344
> > left : 3733 345
This is for a 2001.

Use the German phrase to ask for the parts:
> > Hauptscheinwerfereinsatzen (streuscheiben mit haltern), links und rechts,
> > fur rechtsverkehr.
"Main headlamp inserts (lens-reflectors with brackets), left and right,
for right-hand traffic flow."
If you find a contact to order from, let me know.
