View Full Version : $153 summit 91-94 Flowmaster
EliteConcept 08-18-2001, 06:10 PM there is an ad in summit racing catalog for a flowmaster exaust system for my truck.
I am prety sure that flow master is a good brand....i'm almost postive that its a good brand.
Does anyone have one of these on their truck?
hows it sound?
thanks
ryan
JDraper 08-18-2001, 07:44 PM I had that exact system on my '92 Sport and it worked great. Definite increase in fuel economy and power. I'd recommend it to anyone. It also had a nice growl. Wasn't too loud, but you could hear it when you mashed the throttle. Nice little burble at idle too. Overall, it is a great buy. I put mine on in '96, and it was still in good enough shape that Leggo put it on his truck after mine wrecked this January. The pipes and muffler are aluminized, so rust is minimal. Installation was pretty easy. Took a couple of hours at most. The hardest part is getting the old system out. If they offered the same for my '01, I'd put it in in a second.
fixer 08-19-2001, 02:07 AM just recently installed a Series 40 Deltaflow with a turn out pipe that comes out in front of the rear tire. shorter overall exhaust system and no chance of stuffing the tailpipe into the dirt.
sound nice at about 1,500 revs and then gets quieter at driving speeds.
the muffler was $79 at a local performance shop and the instation was $90.
could have gotten the muffler for about $20 less BEFORE shipping and might have saved a few bucks at a cheaper shop... but it's HOT here in Vegas, and i ran out of patience hunting for deals... some shops wanted TWICE what i spent.
no fancy tip on the exhaust, just a nice slant-cut on the pipe.
Jason94sport 08-19-2001, 12:52 PM I also have the flowmaster system. It's great, Just what I wanted, It's not very loud, but you know it's there. Money well spent!
GA1990 08-20-2001, 12:17 PM I also have that same system (also bought from summit), it goes on very easy and does sound great. I didn't really notice any real increase in horsepower or gas mileage but there was probably a little bit. I'd definately recommend it.
crossman 08-24-2001, 06:24 PM Is it the Force II cat back system from Summit? That is the one that I have been looking at to put on my Explorer in a few months. They have it on their site for $158 and I just wanted to see if it is the same system.
leenjen 08-24-2001, 06:29 PM what cat back system is better to buy (i dont mean brand name), aluminum or stainless steel?
what benefits does one have over the other?
crossman 08-24-2001, 06:35 PM Stainless steel systems will last a lot longer than aluminum systems will, but you are also paying for the SS. That is the main reason that the borla systems cost more than say the Flowmaster systems will. If you want to have the absolute best and longest lasting system, then SS is the way to go, if you have the money. I personally am going to go with the Flowmaster system once I get some cash built up to work on my Explorer some more(college just seems to hinder things, doesn't it? )
mrsteve 08-24-2001, 10:10 PM The only things to watch out for with the Force II system is this:
1. Watch the pipe from the muffler back. Mine would rub against the rear swaybar or the rear shock. I had to make a bracket to hold it all in place. Nothing real fancy just prevents the pipe from swaying too much.
2. The Force II is a 2.5" system. It is generally recommended not to go larger than 2.25" on the 4.0 OHV engine. I noticed a decrease in low end torque when I applied this system, but in the 3250-redline there is plenty of power.
Also when the system is installed it is gonna stick so bad you are gonna think something foreign is buring in your engine. The smell will go away after a few days. Any questions just ask!

oahrens 08-31-2001, 11:40 PM Hey guys..
As a result of this post and the fact my muffler committed suicide on the highway, I bought the Force II cat back system from Summitt and that is the correct price..
My local guy wanted $235 (I owe Elite a case of beer..thanks for the tip)
Well at least the hard part is done..nothing to remove!
I'll repost with results.//
Thanks
red26 09-01-2001, 04:49 PM Very easy to install, everything fit up just right. Not like other other systems I have bought for other cars(other brand). Nice sound, quite sound at idle, but put the pedel down and you know it's there. Overall, for the money I spent it was well worth the $153 from summit.
oahrens 09-02-2001, 12:38 AM Hey guys,
Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday as much as I am!!!
Anyway...I installed the Force II cat-back system today so here are the comments .
91 xlt bought @62,000 in GREAT shape,,,,after 10 months and 20,000 miles later there is something else to do every week..WTF!!
Instead of removing every hanger I Sawzalled (*sp) all of the rubber mount hangers and only busted knuckles on the Cat(new)/inlet pipe hanger. (nice rust)
This allowed me to remove from the cat back in one piece with no problems and a lot of help from WD-40.
The install that should have taken 1.5 hrs at the most took 3 hrs. All was well until I tried to install the middle (outlet to tailipe) hanger which is stock welded to the OEM but seperate on the Force II. The instructions are misleading on this part. I couldn't figure out which way it went.
The main problem is that on certain models the Cat is 4 inches longer to the back than the Force II is designed for. I spent an hour trying to match the correct length to cut from the Flange pipe. BTW---like a haircut..you can always cut it shorter.
Also the tailpipe isn't very secure with just the exhaust clamps so a home made strap is recommended.
Results are well worth the B.S. I went through. NICE sound...and more balls pure and simple.
TIPS----Use WD-40
Use a sawzall
Use jackstands to hold pipes and muffler in place
When completed...check ALL pipes for independent movement.
Sorry so long...like I said it's a great weekend so far.
Thanks to all.
