Hi,
I'm going to look at a 1995 Explorer tomorrow, car lot wasn't open today. Does anyone know of any problems that is typical with this year? What has your experience been? I currently own a 91..which has the strange vibration, rust on the rocker panels & behind the back door. We also replaced the transmission at 130,000 mi. The person at Aamco told us that it was typical that the transmission would only last for around 100,000 miles, but on later models Ford made some revisions so they would withstand higher milage. I don't know what year that was supposed to be though.
The motor on my 91 is in excellent shape, besides the high milage--but I think it would last quite some time with the proper care. I am just leary I will be buying someone elses headache, when I could keep my own.
LOL! Any suggestions for me?

95 Motors are very reliable, of course. Never had a problem with mine....except for when I submarined it...anyway, the transmissions are semi-reliable. They usually last longer than 91-94 tranny's but not as long as the 97+ 5-speed auto's. Also check the ball joints. They tend to go bad and are expensive to replace. So if they're bad you may be able to talk them down a bit. Make sure the 4x4 works (if it has it). Hmm I may think of more later.......

Well...hmmm. I've got a 95 EB 4x4 w/128,125miles on it. I was a little skeptical at first, but it seems like my decision to buy was a good one. I needed a cheap 4x4 that still looked good and worked good. Touch wood, but it's given me no problems except for a binding driver's side tie-rod. Believe or not, my 2k1 Civic went into the shop more than my Explorer!! (Civic-3 times in 2 months; Explorer-1 time in 7mnths)
As with any vehicle, keep up with the maintenance, don't trash it and you'll be fine.

I've had mine getting close to a year and haven't had any serious problems. It's got almost 100,000 miles and the engine and tranny both are fine. No leaks or oil consumption or anything. I've put it through the ringer more than once and it's still going strong. A very reliable vehicle.

The Transmission.
I've had mine for 2 months and it's been in once already and it's going in again this week.
