View Full Version : GAS PRICE SPIKE!!!????? important read everyone!!
EliteConcept 09-11-2001, 04:47 PM NOT SURE IF ITS TRUE GUYS!
but due to todays tragic happenings... my dad came home today and told me that gas was going to be..... $5.00 a gallon later today in our area...currently its $1.52 per gallon
can anyone confirm this gas price spike??
this afternoon it rose at one gas station i saw...
only to $1.89 then returned to $1.52 after a few hours.
IS GAS GOING TO RISE DRAMITACALLY???!!!
bless the souls of those who died today.
tbomb 09-11-2001, 05:15 PM i thought i heard something like that too. i guess we'll see soon.
Sport (no trac) 09-11-2001, 05:20 PM I don't think there is too much to worry about. Although a client of mine, a large gas distributor in the Northeast, said gas prices were going to spike $.25 tomorrow, Opec has promised to keep gas and oil supplies at the level needed by the world economy.
I find this last item very interesting. As much as a condemnation of the evil act as we can expect I guess.
yob_yeknom 09-11-2001, 05:46 PM Since I work at a gas station and also have a cousin that drives a tanker that hauls gas to stations, I have a little info on this.
Our gas supplier has called the store and informed us to fill our holding tanks now and prepare for a price increase next time.
My cousin has also been told that everyone has to work overtime tonight to get gas to all of the stations.
This seems to me as a type of 'stock up now while its cheap' deal. The next time we get a gas shipment, we expect the price to be considerably higher. That's all I know. I do suggest filling up all of your vehicles tonight though just in case. Better safe than sorry.
Raceit 09-11-2001, 06:09 PM I'm sure there's been enough of the "I've just heard" going around, but this is what I've heard. :)
OK, KS, MO and other states' governers have stated that there is no gas shortage and to report any station that is price gouging to them and they will take corrective action.
But now that a "rumor" or whatever has spread like wild fire that there very well may be a small shortage due to haste reactions.
EliteConcept 09-11-2001, 06:15 PM i think that if we panic we will bring a gas shortage upon ourselfs.
it probably will rise...some places more than others.
it will be intresting to see what happens
well im still gonna fill up tonight.
But that is mostly because my tank is almost empty.
B94Sport 09-11-2001, 07:13 PM I just filled up my tank... Prices at stations who were not waiting to raise prices before they empty their tanks had spiked about $.30 already, rumored to go up higher tomorrow. Friends in Detroit say they have paid nearly $4 for a gallon.
RFR2212 09-11-2001, 07:23 PM News said inlight of todays tragedy, crude oil costs jumped about 5 dollars per barrel... Thank goodness I don't have a vehicle to drive while at school
Pete
Skunk 09-11-2001, 08:02 PM only a 0.02 rise here... 1.32 @ 3pm and 1.34 right now
2001ExpSport 09-11-2001, 08:09 PM Again, as if everyone thinks they are the ONLY ones who have heard the news.
Still $1.87 here.
zensius 09-11-2001, 08:15 PM Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly does the 'bombing' of buildings in New York have to do with the price of gas? I can appreciate that what happened is a horrible tragedy, but I think the connection is hype.

I was thinking the same thing....
aldive 09-11-2001, 08:19 PM It all goes back to the business practice of "supply and demand".
Who controls the worlds gas supply?
Real or unreal, panic will cause ab increase in price,

this is what I think. It doesnt reflect the views of others. i think it leads to pointing of fingers at other people and well. i think the US is pointing at the middle east. and if my memory serves me right, the middle east is our supplier of gas. and i think they might try to spike the prices in order to protect themselves or whatever.
well this is what i think. dont quote me. please tell me if im wrong. this is definitely MY opinion
leenjen 09-11-2001, 08:48 PM i hope it doesnt jump.
if it does, i think it will only be a temporary increase.
and i think the panic buying (buying all you can now before the price jumps) is most likely what will cause any shortage...
just my opinions (i have no facts to back me up, so dont respond saying that i'm wrong. because i probably am wrong)
BoatsRcool 09-11-2001, 09:23 PM well this is deffanently bad. im getting scared.
it keeps going up because everyone is so scared.
people are telling me its going up every 15 minutes and all this such.

COMMOCOZY 09-11-2001, 09:34 PM i thouhgt i heard tat gas was going to go up, because the middle east was worried we were going to blow the Fu&*(ng hell out of everything..
Like 2001expsport said before still 1.87 here
laker203 09-11-2001, 09:54 PM Gas in OHIO is already 5 beans look out
4U2NV 09-11-2001, 09:55 PM the sign at the station said $1.37, but when i finally got to the pump it was $1.49.. spoke with my bro and he said the radio is announcing $5.00 a gallon near Corpus Christi Tx. and $3.00 near -by...a friend called his dad there and he confirmed it...Only time will tell...
But more important than that. Will there be a "cold war"?
nucluear(sp) war now thats SCARY
a504boi 09-12-2001, 08:28 AM good thing i live in the dorms at my college. =) ahh the joys of living on campus with ur car parked nearby
Longs 09-12-2001, 08:59 AM I filled up for $1.52 per gallon at about 1:15 yesterday afternoon.
Here in Cleveland, some rat bastards had marked up to $4.00 per gallon last night. The city shut them down for price gouging.
If I see a station whose price clearly reflects gouging, I'll make sure that I never buy gas there again, and tell everyone I know as well. Anybody who pulls that crap should be driven out of business!!!
SteveVB 09-12-2001, 06:21 PM Hey I filled my truck up today price 1.47 for regular.
I was at the same station on Monday price for reg 1.49.
I live in suburbs DC.
Sounds like a lot of fear and rumors around. Becareful.
I watched the guy lowering the prices while i filled up today. P.S. I filled up for 1.359
leenjen 09-12-2001, 06:50 PM no increase here.
the avg. is about $1.47/gal. for regular 87 octane
BoatsRcool 09-12-2001, 07:45 PM it went up about .15 here...
i filled up at 1.39 tonight, but the cheapest i saw was $1.37 today
it was $1.24 the day before this stuff happened.
CougarX 09-12-2001, 07:57 PM Jumped $.20 here yesterday (Peoria, IL) to a $1.99. Some stations dropped backby nightfall. Good things I'm on campus now. 60 miles on truck in 2.5 weeks as opposed to about 1500 in 2 weeks before college. At least thats one less expense.
There is no economical reason for gas to go up. No infastructure (at least on the ground) had been screwed up to stop gas. No Oil refineries have been hit. Oil prices closed pretty close to normal. It's just greedy individuals who want to make a quick buck on anything. Price gouging in time of crisis only creates more crisis. It feeds off itself. Most states have already said that any station gouging will be dealt with, by closing or fining. KY said they would sue any gas station caught gouging. There were probably some shortages yesterday just becasue everyone panicked (yes, including me) and went out and bought gas.
If you think about it we(US) have been pretty lucky so far. Compared to most other countries we have had very few large terrorist acts. It's suprising it took this long. Having as many enemies as the US was bound to result in something eventually.
NOTE: I in no way support what has happened. This is just a observation on my part. I hope we catch and punish whoever is responsable as much as any other american at this point.
4U2NV 09-12-2001, 08:05 PM it seems that some gas stations did go up but had to go back down or face fines... i read one place was even offering refunds on the difference they charged
mattadams 09-12-2001, 08:17 PM gas actually went down 2 cents a gallon here in Colorado, I filled up yesterday at noon because I was getting empty, but I wouldn't have filled up if I weren't. I wasn't worried.
Joe93 09-12-2001, 08:25 PM Gas here has stayed the same. As a result of the rush for gas lastnight most of the stations were sold out of regular unleaded. They were then selling the premium at the regular unleaded prices.
