I have a 96 EXP with 4.0 engine. I removed the canister that holds the MAS sensor and was expecting to have to deal with T15or 20 security screws to get to sensor. I see no screws at all and the sensors look like they are enclosed in a metal tube type enclosure. Even if I could get the device out that houses the sensor then it looks like I would have to spray inside of tube to clean the sensors off. Anyone out there with a 96 EXP or Ranger with this type of MAS? If so , please let me know what you did to clean sensor ceramic wires. Maybe I am missing something, but the pictorial/process that has been described with the cleaning instructions from previous posts does not look like it applys to this model. Help!!! I have got the MAS unit off and I plan on going on a trip so quick feedback/suggestions would definitely be appreciated. Thanks.

In looking inside the MAS cannister I see the black electrical connector, but what is the best way to unplug this with out damaging connection harness? I think if I can unplug the harness then I can get to the screws that are holding the black cover which hopefully will allow me access to MAS sensor. Am I headed in the right direction?

I own a 96 as well, and i didn't actually remove the sensor from the housing. I could see the filiment wires when i was holding the housing (removed from engine compartment) and i sprayed the cleaner in there that way. I didn't have to remove the "safety screws" or deal with the sealed screw heads.

Bracing, did you just spray through the screen to get to the filaments? Also, how long did it take to let it dry? Sounds like a good idea. Has anyone else out there tried this approach?

I took the whole housing out, so there was no screen. I did it when i installed the K&N FIPK system.
I didn't think it was dirty, but it doesn't hurt to give a little squirt in there just to be sure.

I also didnt remove the sensor from the round enclosure. I just sprayed sone electrical cleaner stuff from radio shack on the sensor wire. It dryes super fast. Have done this twice, once a year, and have had no problems.

Bill, did you spray through the screen or had you removed yours like Brac?

You know, I dont remember...Seems like you can spray it from either end so I probably took the path of least resistance and sprayed from the open end.
