Just curious is anyone uses oil additives and if there any opinions or results?:yelexp:

i used to waste my $$ on additives and i would have problems with my cars.
now, i dont buy any additives. i use synthetic oil, and change it every 10,000 to 15,000 miles. no problems at all. my vehicles run perfectly.

Modern, high quality oil does NOT need an type of assitive for any reason.

I dont think any of those additives should be put into any new car or fairly new car. Those additives are a last resort for a car or truck that is a piece of garbage and you want to see if can get 10 more miles out of your car to get it to a junkyard without a tow. I dont think they do anything.

they are snake oil....get off your lazy duff and change you oil....

I've used them in the past but you'll get better results with just using a good synthetic oil.

Change your oil with Mobil 1 and you will see better results than that crap.

I don't use any...motor oils contain enough additives already. But I do use Valvoline Maxlife which helps condition gaskets and some other worn engine parts. I highly recommend it :cool:

the only oil additive i will ever use is the stuff we sell at work.. ;) it is like a quart of cleaner that you pour in 10 minures before you change the oil ;) ...... ther than that oil additives do suck... and most oils now, come with their own additives that actually improve upon regular oil of older technology...... and trying to improve on something that is already good just adds more oil to the already burning fire....

I don't use an "additive", I use what Lucas Oil calls a "stabalizer". Use one quart of this in place of a "regular" quart of oil in the street vehicles. Use Lucas Oil products in the race cars though. REALLY good stuff. Autozone has started carrying it.

yeah i agree with aldive....higher quality oils do not need an additive... i use amco oil and its good for usually a yr. just have to replace filters ever 6mnths.

i ran a ford 390 without an oil pump for hours.... by accident i dropped the shaft that runs the pump when i put the dist in. anyway after it started getting noisy i took it to mechanic and he fixed it, flushed it and it ran fine afterwards. so i guess regular oil is fine. thats all i had in it.

Just out of curiousity, how do you know Maxlife is doing what the TV commercial says its doing? I've seen those ads too with the swelling valve seal, but i'm always skeptical of wonder oils. To me you've got oil and then you got synth. (and then blended) Thats about it... I really don't think regular engine oil can vary that much. (Same thoughts about gas... same octane ~ pretty much the same regardless of who sells it)

You don't need those crap! It's money better spent elsewhere. Although I did fall for a Slick 50 commercial when it first came out and bought a bottle for my Camaro. :banghead:
