View Full Version : So. Cal Explorer Club OffRoadin44 09-19-2001, 12:55 AM Hey just wondering what all of you were up to?:D thunderhorse 09-19-2001, 12:17 PM At this point just watching and waiting  Mike 92 XLT 09-21-2001, 07:12 PM In Michigan. Weather sucks. :D peace Mike Jefe 09-21-2001, 09:50 PM Waiting for someone to suggest a T-haven run. . :) I'm free next weekend if anyone wants to suggest something. TDG 09-21-2001, 11:18 PM Working OT on weekends, I'm sure I could find a real good reason not to work though. OffRoadin44 09-22-2001, 01:16 AM ya well sucks for me because school is kicking my butt but oh well hey jeff the truck haven run is the weekend of my b-day so i dont know what i will be doing but i do want to go to that and some other runs around. I might be acctuly taking a run up the back side of Mt High to the top of the chair lifts. There is supposed to be a trail up there. That will maybe go down Sun so let me know if ytou are interested. Later Dave Jefe 09-23-2001, 10:47 AM I was actually thinking about going to San Gabriel OHV (http://www.r5.fs.fed.us/angeles/recreation/sangabrielohv.html) on Saturday with a couple of friends. If any of you want to join, just let me know. It looks like its mostly just a big open area, with dirt, water, and MUD. I went to check it out yesterday, but got there too late to get in. there were a couple of truck stuck in the mud bogs and it was fun to see them trying to tow them out. :) OffRoadin44 09-23-2001, 07:29 PM hey jeff where is that is that the one up Azusa Ave in the canyon. if it is i might be down. my second cousin and i went to the street leagle drags today and i was thinking if a couple of us wanted some fri night to head out to LA County race way and have some slow 4x4 races some time that might be cool. let me know what you think. dave Jefe 09-24-2001, 10:17 AM Originally posted by OffRoadin44 hey jeff where is that is that the one up Azusa Ave in the canyon. if it is i might be down. Yup, that's the one. We have to do it before I get rid of my firestones. ;) OffRoadin44 09-24-2001, 09:01 PM well most likely there are 3-4 of us going out there this fri. Eric will be running his stealth for the first time. It would be of great fun to go out there in an explorer and have some fun. Let me know if ya wanna go. i prob will not be able to go on sat but i will deffinately go some time with ya it is right over near me. Just cant sat because i have something that i forgot that i have to do but deffinately sometime. dave Jefe 09-29-2001, 02:41 AM What a blast. Dave (Offroadin44) and I and a few of dave's friends went out to LACR. And now I know exactly how fast my Ex isn't. :o For all of you that missed it, you missed a wonderful sight of my truck on my stock Firestones. :D (pictures pending) And me spinning them on the way to the line. (I know, I'm cool  ) So what's next? OffRoadin44 09-29-2001, 03:32 AM Well yes it was a blst and those of you that didnt come maybe we will do it again. Ya jeff and I out there in out explorers along side cars that were full blown dragsters was quite the site. I felt kinda bad for jeff on his last runn when i saw what he was up against. About a 65' mustang that was in no way shape or form stock. Lets just say it was fast. But he does deserve props on hes reaction times and for pulling and staying in front of for a few yards off the line on a modified chevelle. All in All it was fun. Jeff and i were discussing that we should doo something that would get the Orange County people involved. If one of you happen to read this give us some feed back and we will try to get something together. HAPPY TRAILS Dave Jefe 10-01-2001, 11:01 AM Well, I ended up going to San Gabriel OHV all by myself. But I figured I'd share some pics so that you'll all want to come next time: He didn't make it: http://home.socal.rr.com/jsg32/images/exploder/SanGab/Dcp_0073s.jpg But he did: http://home.socal.rr.com/jsg32/images/exploder/SanGab/Dcp_0076s.jpg Oops, too deep: http://home.socal.rr.com/jsg32/images/exploder/SanGab/Dcp_0070s.jpg The 'After' pic: http://home.socal.rr.com/jsg32/images/exploder/SanGab/Dcp_0078s.jpg OffRoadin44 10-01-2001, 02:39 PM well feff glad to see ya had some fun. I haven't even gotten around to prewashing all that mud off yet. . .gotta run around town for a day or two to prove that I do USE my Ex. espnfreak 10-01-2001, 03:09 PM those are some great pics! hope you had fun! Mike 92 XLT 10-01-2001, 04:28 PM Hey Jefe, that looks sweet. I actually went off-roading for the first time yesterday with some of the guys out here in Michigan. We went to a huge ORV park near Lake Michigan. One of the guys brought his digital camera, so hopefully we'll have some pics up soon. You guys are gonna convert me yet. :D Anyway, I'll be back in So Cal for winter break, which is between the 21st of Dec and the 7th of January. Maybe we can plan something then. I'm always up for Mammoth or Big Bear, even though the last couple of times I've tried to snowboard I've almost killed myself. peace Mike Mike 92 XLT 10-01-2001, 04:37 PM http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=242040&t=4446#post242040 peace Mike OffRoadin44 10-01-2001, 10:43 PM Hey Jeff you here that Mr. Zano might just have an itch to get that perfect paint job dirty. Its about time mike. Well we will deffinately have to plan something for when you get here. It will be a pleasure to have you on a trip mike. Now is when the fun begins. Stay in touch even though you are not here. Late dave Jefe 10-02-2001, 12:25 AM Originally posted by Mike 92 XLT . . .between the 21st of Dec and the 7th of January. Maybe we can plan something then. . . You wouldn't be able to extend that through to the 19 or 20th of Jan so you could make it to the Truckhaven run could you? That way we could see how well those 50 coats of Zaino protect an Ex in its 'natural' habitat. :D OffRoadin44 10-02-2001, 12:36 AM Hey Mike as far as snowboarding goes i will be going all the time when you are here because i have a season pass again for Mt. High. If ya wanna go you are welcome. But we do have to get you out ont the trail while you are here. Late Jefe 10-02-2001, 10:18 AM Dave, You can actually stand skiing at Mt. High?? Hey, I'm always up for snowboarding. I've never been but it looks like fun. I have been skiing a few times, and its gotten old, especially at Mt. High. Jefe 10-02-2001, 01:04 PM Well, after prewashing my truck I found something I didn't expect: My First Whoops (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=35878) Mike 92 XLT 10-02-2001, 03:46 PM Hey Jefe, that's what I thought about snowboarding: it looks fun. Be prepared to be really, really sore the next day. But it would be nice to have someone else out there falling on his ass every ten feet as well. :D Truckhaven would be awesome, but the University of Michigan has this thing about missing too many classes, especially right at the beginning of the semester, so I'll have to put that off until next year. And, unfortunately, the Explorer won't be back in Cali until next year either, but I would still definitely want to go on some runs over break, I'll just have to ride shotgun. Just bought myself a little more time before I screw up my paint :D, although the Michigan winter's gonna do that long before the trails will. And, here's our Whoops! from this weekend: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=242446&t=4561#post242446 peace Mike Ken Cooke 10-09-2001, 08:16 PM I lived w/my wife Suzanne in E.Lansing (MSU) for 2 years, and when we drove back to Riverside, it took us 4 1/2 days! You talk about a long drive! Mike 92 XLT 10-10-2001, 11:45 AM Woah. What the heck is going on with this thread? Ken: Yup, it's one hell of a drive. Ventura County to Ann Arbor takes me three days total, although I spread it out over four days (two half days and two full days) due to the nature of my stops. Next time will be my last though (graduating, woo-hoo!!). peace Mike Ken Cooke 10-16-2001, 09:43 PM My next trip to Baja will be in 3 weeks with the Amigos De Baja group. They mostly drive Tacomas (like a Toyota cult!), but they're alright...We will visit Canyon de Guadalupe for some moderate rocks, Native American Petroglyphs, and of course, the hot springs! [http://totalescape.com/active/leisure/hotspr/guad.html] [http://www.guadalupe-canyon.com] Ken Cooke 10-16-2001, 10:12 PM My sister-in-law attends EASTERN. That's not far from U of M. I used to love it when it snowed in Michigan, because you could pound the pavement on mornings that everyone else would get stuck, and take dirt roads turned into muddy roads once the snow turned into slush... OffRoadin44 10-16-2001, 11:19 PM Hey Jeff i saw that you might be going to truck haven. Hey let me know what is up with that and ill see what i can do. Dave:rolleyes: Jefe 10-16-2001, 11:40 PM Dave, Yeah, I'm planning on going to T-haven both Nov. 10-11th and 23-25th. I usually head out friday ~6pm, and stay till sunday afternoon. I've always got open seats if you don't want to beat up your truck. When are we going to the track again? Now that I've got my Diablo chip we'll see who'll win. OffRoadin44 10-17-2001, 12:14 AM hey how did that chip work out? dave and how long a drive is it from here? Jefe 10-17-2001, 11:08 AM The Diablo Chip works great. I'm still not sure if it corrected my speedo (need to borrow a GPS), but it is a very noticable difference in power. T-haven is about 3-3 1/2 hours drive for me. And you're on the way, so take off 35-40. Mike 92 XLT 10-17-2001, 02:47 PM Hey Ken Yup, Eastern is just over in Ypsilanti, about 20 minutes from U of M. The only (and I mean only) thing I like about the snow in Ann Arbor is that with a 4x4 you can park where no one else can. Other than that, I hate the winter. :D Jefe and Dave, next year I definitely want to go to T-Haven. Maybe I'll even have a trail-worthy rig to take there... peace Mike OffRoadin44 10-17-2001, 03:00 PM mike you mean that you are thinking of joining the dark side and raise the truck or maybe just some big tires! I dont know if i can handle all of this excitement all at once. Be great to have you on the trail with us. Late Mike 92 XLT 10-17-2001, 09:53 PM Heh heh The tenative paln is to buy a new car once I graduate (probably a Passat) and turn the Explorer into a trail rig (lift, tires, etc). This all depends on 1) Getting a job, 2) Getting a good job and 3) The X not pissing me off too much (I currently need a new power steering pump). I just can't see selling it anytime soon (unless big-ticket stuff starts to break). It's in great shape and I figure no one will ever give me what it's worth. It'll be awesome to be out on the trails with you guys! peace Mike OffRoadin44 10-18-2001, 07:53 PM I hear ya. I just replaces it on my rig wasnt to much i dont think. Can't remember. My parents want me to get rid of my ex but you know what i said about that. I am currently trying to sell my dad on it and have him drive it and i will get my volvo 850 turbo wagon. The problem is that he wont let me have two cars and they want me to drive something more economical. Well anyways let us know when you will be in town and we will plan a meating and activity. Late dave OffRoadin44 11-07-2001, 01:02 AM Hey what is everyone up to we havent gotten together lately and well maybe we should so if ya wanna give your input to it we will see when a good time is talk to ya late dave Mike 92 XLT 11-07-2001, 02:38 PM Sometime between Dec 21 and Jan 7 (ya know, so I can be there too :D ). peace Mike Jefe 11-07-2001, 03:44 PM Originally posted by OffRoadin44 Hey what is everyone up to we havent gotten together lately and well maybe we should so if ya wanna give your input to it we will see when a good time is talk to ya late dave Some punctuation would be nice, No? Nov: 9-11 - T-haven to 4x4 16-18 - Utah 23-25 - T-haven to 4x4 30-2 - Sacramento Area to 4x4 (tentative) In other words: It's not looking good until December. OffRoadin44 11-08-2001, 02:10 AM well then it looks kind like december. I know where there is some good snow. Dave OffRoadin44 11-14-2001, 08:46 PM Sad day for me today. My fron windshield started to leak this winter and well it i guess is going to cost an a** load to fix because i guess it started to rust and stuff so far i am up to 275 for just the windshield and not including getting the rust taken care of. so as far as going to t haven jeff i guess i will have to pass and hopefully make it to the january one. that is the week my caar is getting fixed. Well so much for mod money.... later dave :banghead: Jefe 11-14-2001, 11:34 PM wow. . . that sucks. you know I never thought about rust (my windshield has had 2 leaks ever since I bought it) Maybe I should look into that. OffRoadin44 11-14-2001, 11:52 PM ya i would since yours is so new and is the factory window ford might even cover it. Ya it really stinks but take the bull by the hornes and deal i guess. If you dodnt take care of it it can get pretty bad so get it looked at. dave Jefe 11-15-2001, 10:49 AM Actually I tried to get ford to fix it. they said it was an aftermarket window, and therefore was not covered. So the previous owner must have installed it. I was just waiting for a rock to come bust it to give me a reason to fix it all. . .but I may fix it sooner now. OffRoadin44 11-15-2001, 11:59 AM best way to do it is to call the body shop that you use and ask for thir recomendation of a glass guy adn have them work in conjunction on the project Jefe 11-15-2001, 12:23 PM Originally posted by OffRoadin44 . . .call the body shop that you use . . . Turns out it was rusted and needed attention but not to bad. I only had to pay for the new window and for the labor at the body shop that was only 50 bucks so i am having a good day. Jeff i sugest you have yours looked at if you already havent. Talk to ya later. P.S. The mountain is open for snowboarding wahoooo. Dave over and out:chug: Jefe 12-03-2001, 05:43 PM Alright, me and a friend have scouted out a few trails within a few hours of us. 1) Last Chance Canyon - north of Mohave, in the Red Rock OHV area: Great rock crawling from stock to modified 2) Lockwood Canyon/Miller Jeep Trail - north of Gorman, near Frazier Park: An awesome trail through the forest with great views - this trail requires the weather to be warm/dry for a bit or you're going to need a locker or two. Body damage possible. Anyone up for a run? :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Perhaps during winter vacation? Jefe 12-03-2001, 05:44 PM Also, when are we all getting together to go snowboarding? OffRoadin44 12-03-2001, 08:19 PM i might be up for a run when school is out. I went boarding last friday and it was pretty good. Hey mike when are you going to be in town again? Let me know what your guys scheduel will be. Dave:chug: Mike 92 XLT 12-03-2001, 11:54 PM I'll be back just as soon as school quits kickin' my ass. December 21st through January 7th. We'll have to figure out a time to snowboard because I think a couple of my buddies want to go too. And I would definitely be up for some wheelin', but I'd have to bum a ride. ;) peace Mike OffRoadin44 12-16-2001, 03:15 PM One more week to go!!!!!!!! Mike 92 XLT 12-16-2001, 06:01 PM Woo Hoo!! peace Mike Mike 92 XLT 12-22-2001, 03:46 PM Wow is it good to be back in So Cal again! Blue sky, the sun, I haven't seen either for a couple of months. We should all try and get together again. I'm not sure if I can swing snowboarding though. I'm going up to Monterey for a couple of days next week, and I have an interview the week after, plus it looks like I'm going up to Tahoe for New Years. So we'll have to see. But - I would like to see everyone for sure. So, what does everyone think? I would like to do a run with you guys. peace Mike RangerX 12-22-2001, 04:20 PM Mike, now that you're local again, I hope you're planning to go to Truckhaven! In fact, everyone on this thread should be going! Check out the discussion and signup threads. Mike 92 XLT 12-22-2001, 07:07 PM RangerX I would like more than anything to attend Truckhaven this year. Unfortunately, I have to be back in Michigan on Jan 7th for my next (and last) semester of school. But next year, I'll definitely be there! I do, however, think Jefe is going. peace Mike Jefe 12-23-2001, 02:42 PM I'm off work until the 2nd. . . I however, am moving across town the 28-29th . . . so some of you decide on a time and I'll arrange my schedule around it. OffRoadin44 12-24-2001, 01:45 AM well mike looks like it is up to you then because3 you are the one with the buissy schuedule. I am free pretty much any time so just let me know. dave:D SCEXPLORER 12-24-2001, 02:49 AM Hey Jefe! How would i get to San Gabriel OHV from LA and how long would it take? Jefe 12-24-2001, 04:33 AM To get to San Gabriel OHV: Take 210 to Azusa, then take Hwy 39 North into the forest and to the San Gabriel OHV Area Entrance Station. As far as travel time, I wouldn't know, but I'd guess 45 mins. You takin' your 2wd up there? You know, a few of us wouldn't mind taggin' along if you are. :bounce: :bounce: Mike, Where are you?? SCEXPLORER 12-24-2001, 12:30 PM Ohh yah. That would be great. I haven't been offroading yet with my truck and wat to do just some easy runs before I drive it on the offroad route to Vegas or something like that. I think my friend with his 4wd 4-runner may come too. Do you think my 2wd can hang there on some easy trails? OffRoadin44 12-24-2001, 02:58 PM hey i might be in well ya that would be a great outing. Let me know when dave;) Jefe 12-24-2001, 04:08 PM Ray, As far as I know San Gabriel OHV is just an open area that isn't very large. There are no trails, and the only reason 4x4's go is for the mud or sand. I'm sure you could have a blast even in a 2wd, but don't be following me :nono: That is unless you want a picture like so: :redexp:---:exp: :D SCEXPLORER 12-24-2001, 05:33 PM Jefe, Is that a challange?j/k Oh yah, i'm planning on sometime this week but i have to report to jury duty on wed. so if i get off i'll want to go either fri 28th or Sat. 29th cus I'm leaving for Vegas on the 30th. One more question, I want to install a no slip powertrax. Where did u get yours and how much? OffRoadin44 12-24-2001, 06:16 PM hey jeff arent there any eaisier trails by you that we didnt do that he could instead of boring flat land ohv. there was that one at the start of the first trail that went the other way where we aired down wasnt there. dave Mike 92 XLT 12-24-2001, 06:48 PM Aw man, I just looked at the dates you guys wanted to go. The 28th and 29th are the two days I'll be up in Monterey. We'll have to try for something next week. Maybe the 2nd or 3rd. I think I'll be back from Tahoe on the 1st and will probably be interviewing on the 4th. Even if we all just meet somewhere for lunch or dinner, that'd be cool. peace Mike Jefe 12-25-2001, 09:58 PM Ray, Friday or Saturday are going to be hard, if not imposible to get away, so that's probably a no-go. Challenge?? As long as you're the one getting muddy hooking up the strap, I'm up for the entertainment. :D As far as the locker, I got mine at National Drivetrain in Vegas (well I thought it was, but they don't have anything in Vegas). Anyway, I think it was $375 + shipping. Dave, Yes, there are quite a few '2wd' trails around here, but what's the fun in that?? :) Mike, Work starts again on the 2nd. But a dinner at, say, Fudruckers sounds good  OffRoadin44 12-25-2001, 11:46 PM alright sounds good ummmmm..... what day and time? dave you and mike work that out since you have the buissy scheduels and just tell me when. SCEXPLORER 12-26-2001, 12:51 AM Man, hmmmm. ok sometime in the next year. i want to wheel with people that know wat's going on. Mike 92 XLT 01-01-2002, 06:30 PM Hey everyone. How's this week looking? I figure I'll be free for dinner pretty much any night this week except for Saturday. If this is too short notice, no problem. We'll just have to get together again this summer. peace Mike OffRoadin44 01-01-2002, 08:47 PM works for me unless it is an early meating on friday i am going boarding and will be back some time after 5 hows it lookin for you jeff dave Jefe 01-02-2002, 10:21 AM Dinner anytime this week sounds good. OffRoadin44 01-02-2002, 03:12 PM hows thursday at 6 at fuds sound to every one. and any one that wants to come and doesnt know how to get there just post that you dont know and i will provide directions the more the merry. dave Jefe 01-02-2002, 04:49 PM I'm there. 6pm Tommorrow at Fuds in Pasadena Mike 92 XLT 01-02-2002, 06:19 PM Awesome. I'll see you guys tomorrow at 6. peace Mike SCEXPLORER 01-02-2002, 09:36 PM Well i just came back from Vegas and my I say that my first wheeling experience was great. However, my inexperience cost me. I gunned it in a ditch cus I didn't want to get stuck. As a result, I hit the lip and gained air about 4ft off the ground. Man what a rush! The auburn worked great in the sand. My friend with a 4wheel drive 4-Runner was getting stuck while I was just flying through with ease. At the end, my far seems fine except that now my front wheels are toe out. I'm thinking its my blown lower ball joints. Nothing seems bent. Do any of you have an idea? OffRoadin44 01-02-2002, 11:19 PM no no real idea but i could be the ball joints or you just threw the alignment off. if ya wanna meet up with us for some grub tomorrow night you can at the fudrucers in pasadena off the 210 at michalinda and foothill. Get off at michalinda and make two lefts off of the freeway and you cant miss it, it is in with sears. we are meeting there at 6 hope to see ya. SCEXPLORER 01-02-2002, 11:36 PM I have to go out with my girlfriend but maybe I can force her to come with me. From LA couldn't i just take the 110N to pasadena. Do I hit 210 from the 110N? OffRoadin44 01-03-2002, 12:10 AM you can take the 110 but it ends at the beginning of pasadena so get off the 110 at orange grove and take a left onto orange grove and follow that untill you hit colorado (make a right) and take colorado to mitchalinda. make a left on mitchalinda under the freeway and make another left on foothill then you should have seen fudruckers from the stop light at mitchalinda and foothill and make a right into the parking lot. hope to see ya there. |
