I’m curious, I have a 98 X-Sport 2WD. I want to upgrade the stereo system. Does the original head unit have an internal amp or is the amp located somewhere in the truck? I don’t have the sub in the back. What I really want to know is can I use the existing wiring in the truck to hook up a new head deck, amp and speakers? I’m going to do the install myself so any info would be appreciated.

the amp on the 98+ explorers is in the headunit. so you can just use the factory wiring without bypassing an external amp.
