Major ouch Jim! Looks like your nerf bar is toast and your tupperware busted but how bad did it get the metal of the rocker?

I'm going to call you Perry jr. from now own. Perry did the exact same thing with the same carnage awhile ago. Sorry to hear about that. It doesn't look to bad. I guess it is time for some good ol rock sliders am I right?

Jim, Jim, Jim.... I guess that is your sacrifice to the rock gods, huh?? I got lucky when I did that at Paragon. We have video of my X flexing one of my Smittybilt nerf bars over a rock, but the bar held up. At least it protected the truck. I'm thinking about welding a piece of angle iron under mine to use as a rock slider.

Jim, Jim, Jim, why didn't you do the other side. I could have sold you mine. That was the same side I did. Now it's time to build rock sliders, they don't bend as bad as the nurf bars do. Well I can't say since I haven't used them all that much.

I had to add a step for Teri, but they come off just like a receiver hitch. So far so good.

Perry, Did you do a write up on your Rock Sliders? I did the same thing that you guys did, to my Factory nerf bars on my sport, but it was the drivers side, and I had to climb out the window in order to get out of the truck.
So now, I want to make up some Rock Sliders, and I want to know where I should start!.

Yo! Jim! Thought I'd mention incase ya didn't notice, yer nerf bar looks slightly tweaked. Maybe it's just the photo angle, but I could be wrong ;)

Jim, Noone has said it yet. What the hell where you doing? That looks like a helicopter dropped your truck on a hillside right on that Huge Rock. Sorry I couldn't make it, perhaps it could have been avoided (LOL cheapshot @ Ryan) I had Octoberfest and was drunk off of my gord all weekend here in town, gonna dry out after this weekend, thinking of coming up to the cities, we'll hookup.

I would be more then happy to tell you what I used and did, but I don't plan on making another pair unless I bend these up which means I would be doing some serious body work.

Perry, I would like a set too, and Jim, sheesh, he's in, now you could make them in bulk and sell em to us midwesterners

You could always get some nerfs/rock rails that are actually made to support the weight of the truck like these for All-Pro that are for any truck or SUV. You select the length and then weld them to your frame. They are $249 a set.

I have them on my off-road only '85 4Runner and love them.

I'd also like to point you over to the "For Sale Forum". Gloria is starting plans for sliders for the Explorer. For 250 from her they're welded together ready to bolt on. All Pro's OffRoad requires you to do all the cutting and such, for the same price.

Just wanted to let you know. I'm also going to see them Monday, and will take pics. We've got a little "idea" ready to show the strength. ;)

Yes leebo I am watching that thread closley I just posted on it a minute ago, I was just wondering about these too, as they look like they could have a built in step which my girlfriend will need after the 5.5 goes on. So when do we get to see this little strength test?
I take it you got yours made huh?

I haven't got mine made. She's taking her's apart to make sure all the parts will work on other Explorers, as well as make sure that her design is holding up to the abuse. We've looked at the frames and as far as we can tell the only thing in the mounts that are different are the lengths. All is looking good.

As for the step,
I'll take a pic for ya. Her design is extended to also work as a step. It's going to have some "sandpaper" like tape on it to help out with footing in the slippy mud and such that you'll run into 4wheeling(the tape is in my back seat now).

Ouch!

I just want to know what was going through your mind about 30 seconds before that. I mean, did you thing that the weight of your Ex was going to crush the rock or maybe it would suddenly shrink? As it looks right now, you drove up to a rock and said, "What the hell, I am driving over that rock."

I am sorry, but I gotta laugh at ya.

When I did mine it was a rock slab. I thought I would just slide over it until I looked at how cheap those things are made. Hey it's a good way to get rock sliders I figure.

1st off, my wife never rides in it, doesn't like climbing into it, and seeing it's MY truck, if I want to smash the $hit out of it, it's MY business. She saw it and shook her head. THAT I will allow her to do.

That rock was a good 3 feet away when I started to climb the mound, then it magically grew to the monstor size you see in the pic and BIT my X! LOL! :(

I thought i gave myself enough room. Oh well, Too Bad, so sad.......boo hoo....Not.

30 seconds before I hit it? - "I wonder if there's a HOOTER'S in town???"

As soon as I can figure out how to make a mpeg video on my MAC of me hitting the rock (yes, it's on video, also) I'll post it.

Until I find some/make some sliders I figure to go over to my uncle's garage and press the nerf bar back straight again, then heat up the brackets to straighten them out. I could care less if it looks bent up. It's NOT a street truck anyways.

The name of the trail I was on/in is called "Hell Diablo"...
Aptly named, IMHO.

Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement!!! he he

You should SEE the video ryan1 took of just where we DID take my X!!! He was white-knuckling the "OH $HIT" bar!!!! "The sink hole" was my FAV because it was so radical!!! Almost a vertical climb to get out of it with hairpin turns 1/2 way up!!!!!!

I can't WAIT to go back!!!!
