View Full Version : systems
a504boi 10-02-2001, 09:40 AM anyone have any suggestions for a system for under $1000. I preferably want 2 12" woofers, decent amp, and maybe some speakers for the doors. and also, what size speakers would fit in the doors for a 98 ford exploreR??
I am a very picky person, i've asked questions on a lot of subs on this forum but i can never seem to make my mind. Help would be good!
justin's_94 10-02-2001, 10:48 AM Damn, the whole system for under a thousand. That would be stretching it, especially if you are a very picky person. It can be done, get yourself a pair of $150 each subs. Go for JL, MTX, Audiobahn, and so forth. Stay away from generic brands, Pyle, pyramid, crunch, etc. Get about a $200-$300 dollar amp pushing about 400 watts total. The speakers in your doors are 6x8. 5x7's will also fit perfectly and some people even go with component systems in which you will need a template to mount them to. I have 5x7 infinity kappas and they are excellent. I paid $250 for all of my door speakers. You will also need about $125-175 dollars for a amp wiring kit and a box for the subs. Go to a local audio shop to get the box and wiring.Let's see now, the total of that should be $1000. This just my input, and it depends on what you want and what your likes are.Good Luck!
jordan23 10-02-2001, 01:12 PM Um...don't you thinkg $150-175 for a wiring kit and box is a little high? You could get the wire from Home Depot for less than 1/2 what the audio shop would sell it to you for. You can get the connectors, etc there too. The MDF for the box is about $20 for a 4' x 8' sheet! You can get the tweed to cover the box for $3-5/yard at any fabric store.
Have some fun...take your time, and build it yourself...Design your box with a simple box building program like WinISD. Don't forget to take into account sub displacement, etc. Start with a sealed enclosure (since they're smaller and easier to build) and work your way up... for $100 you could build 2-3 boxes and see which 'design' you prefer.
Peace,

justin's_94 10-03-2001, 10:39 AM I took into account that you could build it, but some people aren't very mechanically inclined. Hell with my first system I bought everything, but I plan on building a custom enclosure. You are right, but for first timers, I would go ahead and buy everything, just because building your own box could be a pain in the ass.
Jason94sport 10-03-2001, 11:05 AM Shop Ebay, & you can get killer deals. I got my Qlogic stealth box with a 10" sub, A top of the line denon CD head unit, Rockford fosgate 200W amp for the sub, an 8 gauge wiring kit, & 4 5X7 Blaupunkt speakers for about $800. I did the install myself.
nonameputs 10-03-2001, 03:06 PM i would also suggest shopping ebay, but only if you know what you are looking for. I just bought two pairs of pioneer 6x8 2 ways for a little over $100. But like I said, unless you know what you are looking for and it's regular price, ebay might be a pain in the butt. I would suggest looking at crutchfield.com for what you want and then going to ebay to try and find it cheaper.

$325 for a Legacy POS!!!
i know you typed Lanzar, but they are the same thing. they are the same company, with the same build quality (or lack thereof)
jordan23 10-04-2001, 07:16 AM I've used the Lanzar and it is a good amp--stable to 1 ohm with NO PROBLEM.
Don't listen to everyone who knocks it!! The Lanzar 1200D is NOT as bad a build quality as everyone makes it out to be!
Also, you can get the Lanzar for more like $220...
Peace!
