I just found a '92 XLT for a buddy and he bought it and it was a major good deal for $2000.00 (!)

Everthing works (well... auto lockers don't and transfer case switch needs cleaning but what's new?) but he says that the transmission doesn't seem to be shifting into 4th gear.

He hasn't called back with info re: RPM @ 60mph (my '93 does 1250 rpm @ 60 mph).

Is there not a relay from the power distribution system's "transmission module" located somewhere on his '92?

Questions :

Where is this "module"? (is this the box in Left rear qaurter panel?)

Is there a relay between module and trans?

Is there a fuse?

Is there a certain peculiararity to the O/D controls that would not allow O/D lockup?

Is his transmission toast?

He has 147k highway miles on his. My '93 has 140k and I've had NO problems with the transmission. I have the thing power flushed at 25k intervals.

Any enlightened opions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx,

Dr. Ron

Perhaps the OD switch (to turn it on and off) needs cleaning ? Or maybe it's bad . I dunno much about 92's , is there a OD light on the dash to tell if you have OD on or off ?
