I think you are reeeeaaallllyyy looking to get into trouble with your parents. If they dont want you to use their veh., that they let you drive out of the goodness of their harts because they think you can handel the responsiblity, to go boondocking then you should wait untill you can get your own. Cause if you do I'll bet they find out...Don't worry, I won't tell. I won't have to the condition of your X will tell them all they need to know.

Have to agree with Bill, show your parents you are responsible with having the privilege of driving.
Maybe then they might help you get a real 4x4 and then you can do your four wheeling.

As a 17 year old who has (and still does) gone offroad with a 2wd Explorer let me tell you a few things. First off the offroading I do is mudding. When you do this the entire vehicle gets filthy. This includes the entire undercarriage and the engine compartment. You can clean and clean to your hearts content and their will still be mud left over. Ive taken over 30 lbs off of mine and i still am finding more. I have developed a squeek in the front suspension due to this mudding. The transmission doesnt like me either for this. When mudding the speedo reads between 40-60 with street tires(Radial Long Trail t/a) when im only going about 5. That cant be good for the tranny. When you go offroading your chances are not bad that you will get some sort of damage to the vehicle so you dont want that to happen. Not to mention there is a chance that you will get stuck.
Concluding, Don't do it without their permission. Ride along with friends. But if you do do it make sure you know how to properly hook up tow straps and that you go with someone with a good working four wheel drive system. But your parents will likely find out.

Yeah, I agree with everybody else, you shouldn't try to go four wheeling if it's not yours. Especially if you have running boards. I'm 16, and I've done so wheeling that I didn't want my parents to find out about. Which was pretty hard, considering the running boards took substantial damage from a tree stump (the right board) and a large rock (the left board). So be especially careful about the running boards if you do go.

just save some money and go buy a cheap beater jeep for offroading. you could probably find one for $500-$1000

What ever you do, don't call yer parents when you get stuck in your 2WD. *hint, hint*

I wouldnt do it if I were you... you'll break something, and when the service techs put it up on the lift, they may ask your parents what they have done lately to make the undercarriage so dirty... thats when you get busted.

Muahah, FUNNY FUNNY STORY

I am a 18 year old whos first car is a Xplorer....and the first week I had it I took it offroading. Me being stupid, I went without any other truckers and during the night (not to mention it jus rained). So I went and got stuck like a dumby and to get out of my truck and have my legs sink into 3 feet of muck. my shoes got suckchoined off and my car was not going anywhere. I called my cousin who has a bronco and he and his friend brought the bronco, and a blazer...both with v8's (mods). The both could pull me out together with chains and i had to get a ride home from them that night. My mom asked me where my NEW truck was and i had to tell her it was stuck :(. So I skipped school the next day and i went to try and dig it out. Nothing was helping, so finally i hired a wrecking crew...and on the way out to my truck, though all the much and mud...the wrecker got stuck! So then they had to call a wrecker and when they came the said "F*** that!" and left. then finally we called AAA and when they came out they could get it either, but they did manage to pull out the other wrecker. So i had to think of something really quick before someone would find my truck and do some damage. I got it stuck in a subdivision that was being built...so i decided to call the contractors, one of the builders came and started up his big CAT bulldozer!!! The huge thing barely made it out to my truck and while it was tryin to pull me out it was making 4 feet tranches. luckily we both made it out of the much with both of our vehilces and I got a lt more wiser with my off roading decisions.

MORAL: ALWAYS! Off-road with a partner, and Never underestimate mothernature and Overestimate your truck.

I will try to get some pictures online from it, they are funny...i have pics of the wreckers stuck and everything!

Yeah, I agree with leenjen. Just check out Truck Trader and cough up a few hundred bucks.

And by the way...that's a great story. Put the pics up when you can!

Whatever, don't listen to all these old farts on this thread just take it out and wheel the heck out of it. Who cares it's basically your explorer since you drive it every day, and your parents need to understand that. Have fun!

Definately show your parents that you are responsible to handle the responsibility they've given you. You have plenty of time to wheel. Buying an old beater anything to go wheeling is a pretty good idea if you want to go bad enough.

Any time you do something that you know your parents wouldn't approve of, you are risking their respect for you. Once you've lost it, you will have to do double duty to earn it back. Not knowing your parents I can only tell you what I would do if I caught my kid out off-roading in my vehicle when they knew I wouldn't approve. They would loose the keys to it and from then on be on foot until they moved out. Fortunately my (only) kid is my daughter and she is 3 1/2 years old. She is still young enough to learn respect for things that she doesn't own. It sounds like you are past that age.

I like the suggestion made earlier the best, get your dad interested. If you can get him interested in 4-wheeling, you never know, he just might buy you a 4x4 when he feels you deserve it. Maybe he might get one for the family to use so the family can spend some family time together while off-roading.

ok, here's your answer:

do a search on this site for "want to wheel without parents knowing".

There's about 150 different threads on it, and 400 responses to each from people saying the same thing. It comes up about every week or so.

Why don't we make a "Important!:" post saying don't wheel without parents permission. Much easier.

Fact of the matter is Blazer, you're gonna get stuck. And you're gonna get in trouble. Don't do it.

Why can't you buy a new car until after college? I would think that your parents wouldn't have much of a problem with you spending your own money on your own car so you can tear it up. Hell, I had a '96, wanted to wheel, but didn't. Got a '91 and I love it to death. Just be smart. And believe me if you don't believe the other guys. I'm 19, aka, 2 years away from you. You'll be away from your parents soon enough and can do anything you want. Get a job, get some money, buy an old '91 4x4, they rule.

hehe.. GO FOR IT BUDDY! That is, if ya want hell from yer parents... Something tells me, if they wont let ya get yer own, they'd have a $HIT FIT if they found out ya went or attempted to go muddin in a 2wd X. My guess is ya don't have overwhelmingly large amounts of wheelin exprience... SO, I say no, don't do it, but who knows.... my answers sometimes are way out there....
Oh, right now, I'd like BislamJoe's lil smokin guy, just so I could kick back, and smoke and chuckle if ya do wheel and get stuck...

First off my dad works in Texas and comes up during the weeknds. SO i dont think he would want to go wheeling plus he thinks me saving up for a 91 X to go off roading is a complete waste of money. I guess i wont go wheeling but damn when ever i see any SUV with mods on it I get the feeling to go wheeling....And i think i might just buy a old jeep and fix it up.....And i would have to wait till after college becasue my parents wont let me get a job during the school year, but they will let me VOLUNTEER at a Physical Therapy place(that is what i want to do as a carrer i think) SOOOO money is kind of a problem. I do get 200 bucks a month thought but if i save that up it will be a hella long time before i buy my X or Jeep. SO basically i am screwd :).

Thanks for all your input!!!!!!!1

If you really wanted to just buy a beater 4x4 with $200 a month, you very easily could. Just don't narrow it down too much, keep your options open to whatever you can. One of my friends just sold a 1976 Chevy Silverado for $500. Save up for 2 and a half months, it could've been yours. Just don't narrow down your choices, and always keep your eyes out. You never know where you might find a good deal
