what do you guys (and girls) think about superchargers and nitrous for a 4.0

I think I'm currently the only active member on this board with the BBK supercharger. There are a few members who've had the Paxton system on their V6's. The Paxton only works with 91-94 OHVs and the BBK works with all OHVs. If you have the SOHC motor, the only way to charge it currently is with a custom setup. There's a guy at rangerforum.com who's done this.

As for nitrous, the verdict is out whether it's ok or not for the 4.0 motors. Some run the stuff with success while some seem to think it's an accident waiting to happen.

If you do get it set up I know I'd like to see some video of you lightin up the tires.

Nitrous tears up the engine...I don't think it's needed personally, unless maybe you race your X. But then, if you do, do a 302 conversion instead....Well. Before I sound like I know what I'm saying, can you supercharge a 5.0?

yeah, you can supercharge a 5.0. and as far as nitrous goes, if you know what youre doing, its perfectly safe...its the people who are clueless that give it a bad name (now obviously it puts more wear on the engine, but ya know what i mean - people who blow up their engine.)

I would not reccomend nitrous. If you want to run it you really need to put in forged pistons, high performance rods, cam, pushrods, lifters, ect. And that is a buttload of money. I say Explorers are SUVs, and they are meant to be raced. So there is no need to have a "4x4 muscle car"

no you dont. some of that stuff might stand the extra stress & wear a little better, but you dont NEED it (of course, im not talking about running a 150 shot or anything.)

im not saying i recommend nitrous (as you can see i dont have it on my truck), but if he does a little research, reads about it, learns a little about it, he can run it safely with no problems.
