my haynes is pretty good, i can never figure out those damn chiltons! heh.

I've used both and I think they both suck. The directions they have are good if you already know how to do the job. Get the Factory manual if you can.
I don't know if they are still around but I have some old MOTORS books that have been real helpful on my older cars.

I have both for my Mustang and the Chilton's is twice as thick and has lots of wiring diagrams and other stuff that the haynes left out. I vote Chiltons!

The Factory manual for the 1st generation is pretty confusing to me, maybe it's the lack pictures. I would recommend getting the haynes and the chiltons as they each seem to have their own area of coverage, on the things they do overlap on they seem to agree most of the time. The Factory manuals are a lot of money but well worth it when you need exact details, such as when doing engine rebuilding or tracing wiring.

i have both. i like the haynes better because it is a lot easier, but the chiltons is more in depth.

I just bought both, but i don't have them yet (maybe arrive dec 26-30).

I have a Haynes manual and I like it alot. My dad has one also and its helped him do a bunch of stuff.

Get all 3. Haynes, Chilton, and the factory repair manual. You can never have to much information. Even with all 3 you'll still be asking on here how to do things. If I had to choose between the 2 I'd go with Chiltons for the wiring diagrams. Those are a must have.

Haynes is a lot better than Chilton's... but nothing beats the factory service manual.

I'd say between the two, Chilton's is better. But that's because I started out with using them first, (Before I saw a Haynes). I do like Haynes' Pictures; But Chilton's descriptions are more through. IMHO Now if we could combine the two,Hummmm

Wow, heres a thread from 3 years ago and its getting responded to.I wonder who is still around ? On the Manuals, I have had both, Chiltons and Haynes, but Haynes more often. It helps in a pinch and sometimes I even forget to refer to them.

If you're expierenced, go with Chilton's. They cover a lot more in depth things. If you've never worked on an X (or any vehicle for that matter) go with the factory man.
