Thought I'd try to help our new forum grow!

Have any of you gals ever noticed how Amazed auto store sales people, dealerships, etc are when they see you actually know something? Like, you ask them to look up a part for you (when they need all the engine size, etc) and they want to go look at your car first! Um, I think I know what my car is, thanks.

Got any funny stories? tell, tell

This one is more annoying than funny, but here goes: The other day I went into a Murray's auto store to get a Throttle Body Gasket. After 1,000 people asked me "can I help you?" I make my way to the back where you order parts. I tell the guy "I need a throttle body gasket for a 96 Firebird 4.7L." He's like duuuuhhhh, totally stupified, then he asks me "That's Pontiac right?" Yes. "V6 or V8?" I just told you buddy, 4.7L. Look at your little screen: xxL V6 or 4.7L V8! Then he clicks around and he's like umm, they don't make that part. Yeah, okay, so the crusty broken up part that I just took off the car doesn't exist? Theen, he asks "What do you need it for?" Um, obviously, to replace the old one! No, I'm going to use it to repair my muffin pans, cmon!

Why don't people take me seriously! At least the family's starting to understand. I had a very enlightening converstation with some cousins at Thanksgiving about all the new cars coming out. My boyfriend was so lost (And he's the one who got me into all this car stuff in the first place!)

Sorry, that was really long /\ :nono:

Last Thursday night, I was standing in line and 2 guys behind me were talking about replacing one's diff on his Jeeps... I was getting tired of the bragging so I asked where they had been wheeling and damaged it. Just making small talk. I found that if I show that I know things, they usually answer my questions but then get quiet afterwards.

Another time last winter we were leaving Jackson's Hole walking near some guys with a Jeep, they said hi etc (my friend is hot) and I asked if they took it off road or just had 35s to look cool. They laughed and gave me crap right back, and were impressed with Ryan's Exploder. I don't claim to know a ton, but it is nice when people actually take you seriously and talk to you in a non-demeaning way!

I just moved to New York City and I went out looking for a store that sells aftermarket products, I wanted to buy a K&N filter to put in my Explorer. I was driving down the street and I found a store that looks like they sold them. I went in and asked if they did. Now, I look pretty young so they probably didnt think I knew what I was talking about. So they told me yes, they sell them for $60. And then the guy turns around and tells me that he can install it for me and it would all come out to $120. Can you believe that, he wanted to charge me $60 to install an air filter. Needless to say I didnt buy my filter there. I just went to auto zone and got it for $45.

That is what happens when you go into a parts store and need a part for a Ford 390.....and the first thing they ask is what year and what type of vehicle is it in! Most of us know a 390 is a 390, has been and always will be!!! Of course my 390 is in an aerostar, and that really throws them off!!!!!!!! What happened to hiring workers that know what they are doing????

When I got my wind jammer I went to Trak Auto for some paint and clear coat. The shelves were bare of black so I went up to the counter to ask if they had any in the back. The guy was on his computer and made me stand there for like 10 minutes. When he finally gave me the time of day and I asked him for it he asked me what i needed it for. After I told him what it was for he then suggested that I take it to a body shop "so I don't mess it up". I gave him the "drop dead you bastard" look and went to Autozone. It came out awesome and my guess was right when I seen their poorly stocked shelves.....1 week later every Trak Auto in WI put up their "store closing" signs.

Sarah... I agree their shelves are unstocked... the store closings to my knowledge... Murray's automotive bought em out... They're all closing in the burbs of chicago too! I like auto zone :)

Everyone I know is sick of hearing me chitchat about cars, but every now and then it comes in handy....There used to be a classic car dealer near me, and when the owner found out that I actually KNOW the difference between a 351 Windsor and a 351 Cleveland, he asked me if I'd like to take their 68 GT350 out for a spin to FEEL the difference! Boy, that's a memory I'll have till the day I die :D . Seriously, There's not much I like better than pulling up to a local boy in his souped up Blazer or Nissan or whatever-you know, the one with the 'naked girls' license plate frame and the doofy looking oversized, sticking-out-from-the-side-of-the-fender rims, and completely diss their ride by blasting them out of the water on the way to the next light. :hammer:
