So How many of us carry a pocket knife?

If you carry one, what brand of knife do you carry?

Personally, I carry an All Stainless Steel Locking blade Spyderco Knife. Right now I have in the Explorer 3 Swiss Army Pocket knifes(Official Victornox brand) and a Gerber Multiplier tool.

Spyderco and Swiss Army are both lifetime gaurenteed knives. Now I just can't part with my spyderco knife, so that I can get a new one since the Tip broke off of it. Well I keep re-sharening the tippretty soon there won't be much left to it, but hey I don't want to part with it.

I carry a tiny little Gerber lockback, folded it's like an inch and a half long, opened up about twice that. All the knife I need for general use. When I'm out camping or something I carry a leatherman tool though. :hammer:

And when I'm on the shooting range with my dad? Full set of screwdrivers, small files, center punches, rubber mallets, and the kitchen sink. :shoot:

Never leave home without it...been carrying one since I was a sophomore in high school. My dad gave me my first pocket knife about that time (don't remember the name, just a small one he had). I used to carry a Buck "Hunter" lockback but it was way too heavy. Now I carry a small Gerber lockback I bought, and a small Swiss Army keychain knife my girlfriend brought back from Switzerland for me.

I've got the small non-serrated one.

I carry a Victorinox medium sized swiss army knife attached by a stap to the key ring of a solitare mag light.
Those mag lights are very handy indeed and the knife is indespensible too. I also have a bigger Victorinox swiss knife with toothpicks and such, but I don't use that as they tend to fall out of the handle. In the Ex. I carry a SOG. brand multi tool- just like a leatherman, only bigger and stronger.

My fellow Boy Scout Summer camp staff guys introduced me to the Spyderco Knife, it has to be one of the best brands of knives out there along with Victorinox. I have Either the Endura II or the Delica II, which ever is the bigger of the two....

Yep, I used to have a nice swiss army but I lost it, that's like my 3rd one. Now I carry and mini leatherman on me and I keep the full size one in my truck. The saw tool on it is dang sharp, I sawed the trunk of my christmas tree off with it in about a minute flat. The tree is 4"in diameter.

I got that tiny Swiss Army Knife on my keychain (except when I go to the airport though!) My dad's the one who taught me to always have the knife around like he does. I carry one of those plastic al cheap-o knives. The one the handle is part of the knife, then you unfold the hadle to get the blade out.
I know it's nothing fancy, but when you are cutting cardboard all day it doesn't pay to have a fancy one. I used to collect knives so I have tons of them in the garage and in drawers in the house.

Teri told him to be careful and he said; yes mom I'm being careful!!!
A little later he gets up and runs to the bathroom holding his hand. Of course mom goes to see what he did and he won't show her so they call me to the bathroom. I looked at it and he had poked a pretty good size hole in his thumb. When I was running it under cold water he started to really cry. After we stopped the bleeding he told me he thought I was going to let all his blood drain out his thumb.
I know it's not funny to him, but I got a laugh out of it and down the road he will look back and also laugh.
He has been around razor blades because of the body shop but this was the best cut he has done to himself so far.

I alway's keep my Gerber w/ me. it's one of those that u can flick open w/ your thumb, and close w/ one hand. That really come's in handy if u only have one free hand. Plus it's fun seeing people's reactions when I open it really fast.

I have carried one on me since I was about 10. All thru highshcool I carried one, got them taken away more times than I could count, they would always mail them to my parents and my rents would give it back to me, they thought I needed to carry a knife too. Right now I have a small Buck lockback knife, but I have been looking to upgrade to something bigger, maybe with like a 3" blade. What do you guys recomend? Spyderco? Gerber? Any others?

As for sharpening, I take my knifes to a professional sharpner about once every couple of months. When they come back you could cut steel with em...And its only a few bucks a knife for the sharpest edge possible.

Depends on what I am going to be doing as to what I carry. I have 2 slim knives I carry if I don't want a "pocket bulge". One is a "Spectrum" by Fred Carter , another is a pocket Skeleton Knife by Bear Magic. For every Day use I use a 2 bladed Razor by Bear Magic, a small fixed blade "Hawker", or one of my inexpensive one handers.
For hunting my favorite is my "SRK" by Cold Steel.

A knife is one of the best tools you can have, if the knive won't do it, it can sometime make the tool that will

Right now, a Swiss Officers. Sometimes, a Spyderco clipped inside my belt. Or a Buck Ranger in a sheath. Or a Barlow (by Kutmaster) in my pocket. Or a Kutmaster Stockman's (3 blade) when in the woods. Or a Kutmaster Pruning Knife (when working in the yard/garden) Or a J. Parker (Clarion, PA) custom-made skinning knife (when deer hunting) or a Swiss with most everything when fishing. Or a Swiss Executive (the tiny one). Or a Swiss with not quite everything. (All Swiss are Victorinox)

Something for every occasion!:D

Now, just have to remember not to go to the airport, or the federal building, or a courthouse, or a school, or .....(the list of places where one can beome a felon for carrying a pocket knife seems to get longer each year:(

If I could just figure out how to do pics, I would show them.:smoke:

Bear is a good knife, and rather expensive. Bear has also aquired Victorinox now, so the new Swiss Army's are actually Bears.

Stay away from Smith and Wesson, they are made in Tiawan by Taylor Cutlery and use the S&W logo as a marketing gimmick.

Well after searching through this thread, and shopping for a new knife, I went out this morning to get a new one. I almost bought a Spyderco Delica Lightweight, but couldnt get myself to cough up the $60-$70 for it...So I wound up with a Gerber AR 3.0. Ive never had a Gerber knife before, so we will see how long this one lasts, and if it doesnt cut it, I may go and get a Spyderco. Anyways, ive been playing with the new digicam a bit too much, so here is a pic :D

Absolutely!! I usually have at least one with me at all times.

1. Baby Victorinox Swiss Army (Is there any other kind?!) on my key chain at all times. ('cept when it was taken at the Steamboat Springs, CO airport ...)

2. I always throw either my Swiss Champ or my Leatherman Supertool - sometimes both - in my backpack, travel bag or center console anytime I go anywhere.

3. I've got a no-name double-edge that resides in my glove-box.

4. I take my KABAR camping and / or hunting, and sometimes day-hiking more remote areas.

5. I generally take my folding Gerber Gator when day-hiking. (It's easier to keep conceal yet accessable than the KABAR where in more populated places people may be uncomfortable seeing the KABAR strapped to my leg.)

I've also got a decent collection that includes some nice Buck folders, and a sweet 3 blade Old Timer.

Just a couple of thoughts.. Victorinox did buy Bear MGC and at last word,Bear was trying to buy the stock back. Buying cheap knives is dangerous at worst and a waste of money at best. I went through a box of cheapos at Autozone once and found over half would not stay open! that can cost you a Or yourfinger! Or your wife.On the issue of cost, buying several cheap knives WILL cost you as much as buying one decent knife.Gerber,Buck, etc all make good working knives . Forget Schrade, they are out of business.Brands like S&W are only a little bit better, the quality isnt very good and the materials are not top quality.
The issue with knock offs is that they are deliberatly violating other makers hard work and designes and in many cases violating patent rights. We should not support such activities!
However,if you wish to buy one of these knives,PLEASE do me the favor and check it thoroughly for safety!!!! Idont want any one hurt over a 3.99 knife.
Thanks for listening, guy

A Buck 186C is always on my right and some cheapo swiss army fake in my X. I also have to admit to carrying it and my mini-mag even in my Sunday's best.

No, no knives. I carry a Glock, though, with the proper permit of course.

Exact same thing I was going to say!

I have a Gerber knife, but found it was too dangerous (nearly cut my left index finger off, so I got a Glock instead).

Performancenut... what one(s) do you have? I have a 21.. getting a 19 in early Sept.

What company is that? I've got a cheapo "switchblade", more dull than a butter knife.

Carry one of two Kershaw lock blades with me at all times the Leatherman stays in the truck and I also carry the Topeak McGuyver on any of my cycling trips or camping trips, that bad boy makes a swiss army knife look like something outta the $.25 candy machine. lol
