after i've been driving the X a little bit, just enough to get it warmed up a bit, when i shut it off and get out, i can smell gas. i have looked around on the underside of the car, and best i can tell everything looks good. i have also listened fairly closely for exhaust leaks, nothing there either. am i running rich? possibly a bad theromstat? (what is the stock thermostat, btw?) any suggestions?

Probably the gas vapor canister thingy.... part of the emissions system. Sorry can't be more specific, but it has been the topic of several conversations on the board. Try search for gas odor, gas vapor or canister

I had a similar smell problem for months and was also advised about the evap can but,,, the problem turned out to be a very very small hole in the metal fuel line in front of my sohc motor. Replaced this rather comples line and NO more smell.
