what grade oil should i be using? I go to one place they give me 5w30 and another gives me 10w40. How should i decide which to go with and which is best for prolonging the engines life. I do about 60 miles a day with 300 mile trips every couple weeks or so. drive on highways and cities. the places i drive are in New England so it does get cold. Thanks for the replies.

I'd go 5w-30, especially as it is getting colder, unless you find your engine is burning/losing oil, in which case you would go for a heavier weight oil.

I would recommend 5 W 30 in a synthetic, such as Mobile 1.
I have had great luck with it.

I have noticed that my truck seems to be losing a little bit of oil but the 10w40 seemed really like an odd choice for the oil change people to use. any idea why they would choose that?

10w-40 is a average grade of oil.....and probably just what the oil place had in stock
do it yourself in half hour with good oil....

I'd run 5W30 or 10W30 synthetic.
