View Full Version : Missing Ashtray!!
ltools 12-15-2001, 01:03 PM I own 2 95 explorers, my newest purchase is a explorer expedition version... with the "High feature console" inbetween the front seats... my problem is this, it came without the ashtray insert, and I smoke.... (I know... Quit)..... went to the dealer to get an insert, but there diagram is showing the flip up ashtray as being a "unit" that pulls out of the console itself, my truck the flip up list is "part of the console" and theres an insert thats supposed to be inside of it... I can't find this insert anywhere... tried bone yards... and the dealer... can anyone tell me where i can get this insert? Or do you happen to not smoke and wouldnt mind parting with your insert?... Please advise....
Doug.....:(
Perry 12-15-2001, 01:44 PM First of all welcome to this sight. I hope you will find it helpful and fun.
Now for your question, it's simple and you answered it yourself, QUIT SMOKING!!!
Then the money you save from smoking you can spend on your Explorer or better yet, take that money and come out to one of the runs we have.
Dannyboy 12-15-2001, 02:00 PM C'mon Perry Nobody likes a quitter.

Yes there are things that are good to be a quitter for and that is one.
I would say being a quitter would make him a winner.
Besides it would be fun he could come out and watch me run circles around that flat lander Explorer of yours.
J/K :D :p
aldive 12-15-2001, 02:52 PM Go Perry go....
and you will live longer to enjoy your Explorers.
Blue Steel 12-15-2001, 03:03 PM do you have cup holders in the center console? if so, there's an insert that you stick in the cup holder that has a lid and is an ash tray. got one in my explorer. there are two cup holders in my center part, and one is bigger and one is smaller. the ash tray fits in the smaller one. hope this helps
rpenner54 12-15-2001, 04:26 PM And here I thought everyone just threw their old butts out the window! LOL Well you learn something new all the time.
Jokeman 12-15-2001, 04:32 PM I would say being a quitter would make him a winner.
Didn't your mother tell you never to be a quitter? ;) ;)

Congratulations on your purchase of a very rare explorer! I own one too and am quite happy with it. If you haven't found one of the inserts yet you can have mine. Send me an e-mail or something.
Steve94LTD 12-16-2001, 03:29 AM im not going to tell ya to quit smoking, cause I dont want to be a pain in the ass :).. But DONT smoke in your car!! arrrrg! if you do, or let anyone else... window must be open... I can count on one hand the number of times Ive let people smoke in my car, and all of those times (even in -10 degree weather) the window was down.
Fat Boy 12-16-2001, 02:09 PM use the window to flick your ciggarette and toss it out the window as well.
i never use the ashtray for ciggarette ash..
the only time i use the ashtray is for those other ciggarettes, ya know...the unlabled ones...
ignore that last statement.
Figitt 12-16-2001, 04:32 PM welp, I just bought a 99 Sport this month, and I really like the vehicle alot, except for the damage done by the previous owner. at least 200 burn marks on the window rubber from flipping the ash out the window, 4 large burns in the seat between your legs, and 2 burns on the console side of both seats. The seats were repaired but they stand out real well. And lets not forget the permanant tell tale smell. Its a real shame to ruin a car like this because they are just too weak to stop smoking for the short time they are in the car. Its a very nasty habit not to mention deadly.

,,,, and start fires as well as littering the roads... great idea.....
Fat Boy 12-16-2001, 07:12 PM i have yet to start a fire by flicking a ciggarette out the window, neither have any of my friends, and everyone they know as well..
as for litering the road...there is nothing wrong with litering..
why?
because it creates jobs for other people, simple jobs that anyone can have, im sure everyone can pick shit up off the side of the road.
so, but me litering iam not only helping the economy, iam also lowering the unemployment rate in the states that i litter in. yay for me.
many of you seem to be anti smoking...
too weak to quit. no, many of the smokers in the country arent to weak to quit smoking, they enjoy smoking because it feels/tastes good. im sure i can quit, sure, it would be hard to start with but it would be kicked in a short period of time.
as for the smokers who are addicted and dont smoke because they enjoy it, have sympathy for them. they cant help it. do you think i would go up to your relative that is slowly dying and laugh and them and bitch and moan about how theyre dying. no, no i wouldnt because they cant help it. same as smokers. so dont be assholes to people who smoke.
now, as for the 'tell tale' of a smokers car.
buying a used car? dont like smoke?
DONT BUY A SMOKRES CAR!!!! wow, isnt that simple?
in all, dont like smokers?
deal with it. you already have most resturants and pretty much ALL public areas. isnt that enough, or do you want to out law smoking so the coke heads and alcoholics can roam the land?
espnfreak 12-16-2001, 07:18 PM Can someone clarify the explorer expedition version for me? I've heard of it before, but what features does it have over the regular explorer? Thanks!
Jason_25 12-16-2001, 07:32 PM This is taken from the e-mail I sent Itools:
About the expedition model. It's quite rare. I have only seen 2 other Expedition
models in person out of the zillions of explorers I see on the road
everyday. From what I have seen Expedition models come with
certain "standard" features. For instance, they all are 4x4. They all have
Eddie Bauer fender flares and 16" Chrome plated wheels with 255/70/R16
tires. They all have skid plates and Limited slips in the rear. They also
have low gears. Either 3.73 or 4.10. Every one I have seen also has
leather interior. And they of course all come standard with 4.0L OHV V6
mated to the 4R55E auto tranny. However, the coolest thing is that,
apparently, a front brush guard and rear taillight guards were available as
a factory option. I guess they were packaged as an "offroad" explorer. I know that they were listed separately from the sport in 95 also. So your choices were XL, XLT, Limited, E.B., Sport, and Expedition. They most closely resemble 97 sports.
LiKuiD 12-16-2001, 07:44 PM any pics of this expedition? just curious
ltools 12-17-2001, 06:11 AM Jason_25

Doug
ps.. pertaining to the insert!
IAmTodd 12-25-2002, 05:56 PM I never let people smoke in my car! The previous owner did. It took my 4 yankee candle air fresheners and a gallon(literally) of febreeze to get the smell out. If you remove the black peices in the consol there's ashes all over the place! Quit! its the best thing for you and your loved ones!!!!!

Those that are that ignorant that feel it is okay to throw ciggarette butts out the window get no respect from me. Two things can happen, one a fire that destroys habitat, and wild life, and two those filters are made of fiberglass they will be around for twenty years, I would bet the wild life that finds them on the side of the road appreciate that.
Point two, littering creates jobs, no most clean up is done by work details from county jails who are supervised by deputies paid from our tax dollars, thanks alot, you are just costing us money, not boosting the economy.
People that conduct themselves in the manner in which you described can kiss my entire a$$:mattmoon: I wish I never read this post
rpenner54 12-25-2002, 09:42 PM Hey buddy if you think that flicking cigs out the window doesn't start wildfires you need to do a bit more research. In fact check out the stats in Colorado during our dry months.
expo5.0 12-25-2002, 10:16 PM if you just need the ashtray insert i have two that i don't need. email me at wils0559@umn.edu.
expo5.0 12-25-2002, 10:19 PM as for the rest of you fools. although i agree that cigarettes are gross and littering is bad (particularly in colorado or arizone since its so dry and crap) heres what i think about this thread
expo5.0,
I have personally never seen one of these inserts, only read about them. Do they fit in the standard cup holders even if you have the flip up ashtray? If they do, I would like to get one of yours off you.
Robb
edit: to those arguing, once again........"he without sin shall cast the first stone"
expo5.0 12-25-2002, 10:30 PM i just have the regular ash tray inserts like you (the ones that go in the stock place) like you already have probably. right? i didn't think he was looking for the other kind, although my grandpa used to have one of those in his explorer and i know what your talking about. i believe those ones came stock in the early model mountaineers and some explorers
Ah, gotcha!
I don't know why I was thinking that the subject was talking about the round ones. I was prolly just being stupid, and thought of the round ones when I heard the term insert. Sorry about that.
Robb
