Looking at a 97 explorer sport today with a 4.0 SOHC and automatic tranny. It's a beatuiful car with only 69,000 miles on it, and all the options. It's going to be for my sister, finally replacing her P.O.S. 83 6.2 liter diesel blazer (the only non ford in the family). The dealer wants $11,881 for it, whats a fair price, blue book is 11860.

I wouldn't pay that, the dealer would make a killing on the profit... Trust me, he probably paid a little more than half that for the truck, you can talk him down a great deal. If not, walk away and come back in a few weeks after it hasn't sold (and if he won't budge on the price it probably won't) and see if he'll deal then.
My 97 is fully load (for a 5 speed, some options weren't available) and in mint condition, 90000 miles. I bought it at a dealers-only auction for 5400 cash. If he bought it at an auction, nothing at the dealer auctions will go above 1/2 book unless they're buying it for themselves or for someone else. If it was a trade in he proly screwed the guy he bought it off of enough to take a hit on the sale price. Talk him down, he should move a great deal on that price.
