When Windex doesn't cut it whats the best way to clean the windshield? I'm talking about the road film that builds up and causes glare when it's raining. I've changed the wipers but it didn't seem to help much.

Try using some really fine grit steel wool with some windex.

I have used an equal mix of rubbing alcohol and white vinegar.

I just got some prolong window cleaner and it seems to remove pretty much everything from my window.

Zaino glass polish works great. If you use steel wool, make sure you get 0000 grade. Anything else will scratch the glass.

I've had good luck with Meguier's Mirror Glaze... I don't know what the new bottles look like or if its even still available (the bottle I have is probably 20 years old, my Dad used to use it for motorcycle helmet visors), but if you can find it, it does a nice job without scratching, I use it on all kinds of glass and chrome.

After reading some of the suggestions I went rooting through my wifes cupboard of cleaning supplies and found something called Cameo Copper Cleaner. It's a white powder that containes silica so I thought I'd give it a try. First I wetted down the windshield with Windex then I powdered the windshield with the cleaner. Next I took a small sponge and "polished" the windshield in small circular motions in both horizontal and vertical patterns. After that I washed the windshield off with more Windex and it looks great. I went for a drive in the rain and the windshield is clean!

Bon Ami cleaner and a little bit of water. Also, don't use paper towels when cleaning your windshield. Most brands of paper towels contain wetting agents that can be left behind. Use a clean towel or rag instead.

When I go to a hand car wash, they use a clear red solution for pretty much everything including the glass. It leaves no smear marks or anything. Does anyone know what it is? :o
