who here owns a 99 Sport? more specifically, one with leather and power everything?

ok, just a 99 Sport, semi loaded.

what is the one thing you dislike about this truck?

would you rather have holded out for a 4 door?

what made you buy the Sport?

what are the advantages of the Sport over the 4 door?

the only thing i didnt like was the mono-leafs. but i fixed that with 4-door leafs, and the stock shocks:TERRIBLE! also (kinda of the truck) my friends cant figure out how to use the seats right. the front passenger one slides forward when leaned down so people can get in the back easier, they dont understand it.:confused: a couple of things i like are: its faster cause its smaller, and its easier to wash, also cause its smaller. uhhh.... thats about all i can think of right now. other than those small things i love my X just the right size for me! thats why i bought it. the only problems i had (not really) where the wheel bearings whining and the transfer case leaked, but i got a new one from Ford.

tarheel, does it come with a sunroof? i want to set up the ceiling of the vehicle i buy like one from a Range Rover (with the corner windows and other windows, and 2 sunroof's)

yeah mine has a moonroof in it. the only problem with that is you have to windex it.:p

I have a 98 sport. Basically same thing your looking for minus the leather. I'm not a big leather fan, mainly cause i hate the way it feels in the cold and I live in upstate NY. I was looking at both the 4 door and sport models. I had a bronco as my first car and loved it. So i wanted the feel and same size as my bronco. So that was the main reason to get the sport. Other then that I liked the options that came with it and i thought they looked nicer then the 4 doors. But i like the 4 doors.

i have a 98 sport too with all the options except the sunroof. i have the leather and its cool, but its a pain. its cold in winter, hot as hell in the summer, you always have to use that conditioner and cleaner stuff on it or it looks like crap. the only reason i wanted leather was because my first explorer didnt have it and i got this one when i was 19, and what 19 year old kid doesnt want leather? heh. i dont really regret anything about my truck. i didnt want a sunroof and i still dont want one; everything else is great about the truck. if i could go back, id buy the same thing (maybe not in white though; this is my second white explorer and im getting tired of it and its tough to keep clean but it hides swirls and its tough to see small dings, even though my truck has no dings or swirls ;) )

i got the sport over a 4 door simply because i got it right before i went away to school and i didnt need a 4 door (i usually dont drive around 25 people in my truck or pack it full of stuff very often.) i would have rather put the extra money that a 4 door costs into more options on the sport that i bought.

i got the sport because i like the way it looks better. also its cheaper and i don't plan on sitting in the back seats so i didn't care if you had to fold the seats down to get in them. i never fold mine down. i just make them use the passenger side all the time. the ONLY thing i dislike is that you have to crawl a bit to let the seats down back there. with a 4dr you could open the door and do it i guess. i don't have leather because i don't like leather. the moonroof wasn't something i cared about either way. i like the size of the sport better. i know there isn't a tremendous difference, but i can tell the size difference. plus.. the sports come with the matching color grills and the gray bumpers instead of chrome. i don't like chrome on vehicles so that was a definate plus of the sport. i really didn't even go in looking for a 4dr. i knew i wanted a sport and that's all i test drove. i did test drive a 2dr blazer with the zr2 package... that thing had some pep.. but it was insanely tiny on the inside! ewwww..
oh yeah.. the monoleaf thing tarheel said.. but that is very easy to fix.
NOTE: i still like EVERY 4dr on this website, i just like mine better. but hey.. its mine.. so i should feel that way right?! :rolleyes:

I'm way off from your year but I've got leather, power, moon roof, and a sport.

Overall I prefer the sport over the four door because 99% of the time I don't need the extra space the four door would have provided. There are times when the extra length would have been handy (carrying all those 8' garden timbers, four people and all their luggage) but I'm still happy with the sport.

Leather - no problems. Considering my seats are 11 years old they still look pretty good. The cold doesn't bother me much in the winter since my truck warms up quickly. The summers aren't too bad since the grey seats don't get too hot.

Moon roof - after nine years it got loose and I had to retighten everything to prevent rain from coming in. No problems other than that. I like having it as a vent I can leave open all the time.

It's nice to have a 2 door because they are more agile on the trail.

Wouldn't it be cool if they had an option to get the V8 in a Sport? Has anyone swapped in a 5.0 in a Sport?

hell yes! it would be damn cool. nope, no ones done it; a few months ago willy chu was seriously thinking about it, but i think his plans fell through.

yeh i have a 95 sport. i love my truck. only thing i dislike about it is it rattles. but thats my fualt. exhuast the dumps underneath the passenger seat is bound to vibrate the car. i dont have leather becuase i didnt want it. i do have a sun roon and quite a few options. its a great truck. im going to be sad to see her go. =(
oh well. i have the rest of my life if i ever want another explorer
