View Full Version : bye bye X....
mikeresin 01-29-2002, 02:47 AM well i think im actually going to sell my explorer. im sure as hell going to miss her.
but i want to buy something with better gas milage. im about to move away to school and cant have a car that is in danger of the tranny going or something like that.
plus i also want to get something thats going to be faster. im thinking a 90-93 5.0 or maybe a later modle 4.6 mustang.
but yeh. im going to miss it. its probably going to be quite awhile before i have another that is a "luxerious" as this one. but oh well.
im going to post in the for sale forum.
thanks for letting me vent guys.

jimbo74 01-29-2002, 03:32 AM mike, getting yourself a stang isnt going to get you better mileage...keep the X....
mikeresin 01-29-2002, 03:37 AM actually all my friends with stangs get better milage. and its not just the milage. for what i sell my x for i can get a stang with alot less milage. plus im ready for something faster
jimbo74 01-29-2002, 04:51 AM i bet alec's X is faster than your friends stangs....
mikeresin 01-29-2002, 05:05 AM doubt it. besides alec has had to drop alot of money into his car to run 13s. my friends didnt.
jimbo74 01-29-2002, 06:43 AM alec had to spend money, but how many Xs do you know of that can even run 13s? how many gimpy hondas will even to that? 13 is pretty darn good for a v6 and a 2 ton truck...besides...everyone and their mom owns a mustang....be different....
rustytr 01-29-2002, 09:44 AM Good luck with whatever you decide to go with.:)
RFR2212 01-29-2002, 09:54 AM Eh just get the stang.... hopefully no more tranny problems...
Pete
I'm not gonna get into the speed or mileage debate, but the X sure is nice in college, being able to carry a lot of crap and/or people around. I remember being a freshman and trucking almost half my fraternity pledge class around (12 guys).
Ross-N-Chicago 01-29-2002, 12:11 PM I think mileage is a poor reason to sell the X. Have you fully weighed insurance increases, lead footing the stang, etc. I am willing to bet those costs will far outweigh the increase in gas expenses. Plus, you will be pissed to have to borrow a truck every time you want to carry or get something. My .02.
leenjen 01-29-2002, 12:17 PM good luck with your new car:)

I didn't know there were any Explorers that could run 13 seconds? Damn, Alec, what did you do to that thing???
2001gtboy 01-29-2002, 12:51 PM if you bought an explorer, and then put money into it to run 13 seconds, you might as well have purchased a Cobra and then modded that......
expo5.0 01-29-2002, 01:34 PM alec- when did you become able to run 13s. i thought with the nitrous you would probably be in the mid 14s right? or did i miss something?
mikeresin 01-29-2002, 01:52 PM well my original plan was to make my ex into a drag racing ex. but ive just had money complications. i love explorers and fast ones are rad. i also love mustangs. i can buy a 5.0 stang with a crappy engine and tranny for 1500. buy a crate 302 motor that puts out upwards of 345hp for 2000. and i can get good tranny for around 400. and if i want i could get a blower on it. with all that the car would cost me 7-8k. not bad for an 11 sec car.
Kris Guilbeaux 01-29-2002, 03:54 PM I am not going to tell you to keep the X vs. a Mustang. But I wish my Navajo go the Same mileage as our 95 5.0 Stang.
I like Mustang and Explorers both. But hey if you like both some times you have to make that choice. But I would not make that choice on Mileage alone.
Good luck
nak4af 01-29-2002, 04:08 PM What ever that you do decide to do it will only be by your choice. However, don't live to regret.
I owned a '77 Jeep J10 pickup before buying the EX. I loved that truck! Spent 4 years and over $8,000
to get it running. I sold it only because I moved to Alaska (it wasn't I/M capable). I regret it every day!
I never owned it because of it's economy. It was the 350+hp and the capability of going up/over and through almost anything. Also it's ability to smoke any cocky punk at a redlight who had something to prove.
If you have any emotional attachments to your truck, Keep it! It may haunt you forever. I later found out that my old J10 was eventually crushed. Now there are no chances of me getting it back again. Like I said...
Don't live to regret!
Hartman 01-29-2002, 07:50 PM Mike, it sounds to me like you're trying to make yourself believe that the Stang will have better milage and will not have any malfunctions. Whatever the case, good luck...
2001gtboy 01-29-2002, 07:59 PM well comming from someone who drives a stang daily on his own money i can tell you the difference in stang gas mileage. There is daily driving, and econo driving. my daily driving, is still pretty good mileage, but im filling up all the time, but when im broke as i am now, i drive econo style. 5th gear whenever i can, and that actually gives me a great delay between tanks.........
RFR2212 01-29-2002, 08:02 PM I know Alec has stayed outta this alot, or so I'm guessing with his hesitant response... If anyone has read his NOS thread... He's only expecting mid 14's... Now, as for milage... who knows... seems like ya are more into the stang, and really if that's what ya want... get it.. It's you driving, not everyone else... You're the one buying it, fixing it, modding it, driving it etc... As much as explorers are good trucks, they're not everyones gig... just get what'll make you happy.
Pete
mikeresin 01-30-2002, 03:47 PM yeh i dunno. the trucks not sold yet so i still have time to think about it.

14s aren't bad at all for an Ex. Aren't as good as 13s though :p
Hehe, just messing with ya Alec :D
