Has anybody tried to reload the spring in their rear cargo cover. It has directions in the Owner's manual, and we honestly tried to follow them...but failed. Is there a secret to it? I am close to taking it to the dealer, but they would probably want me to pay.

i believe this is one of the true Explorer mysteries. I tried reloading that thing so many time, same result: nothing. I have posted this question twice before and nobody could answer it. The only answer I got was buy a new one. Hopefully someone out there knows something about this stubborn thing.

Like I said before, I am close to taking it back to the dealer and asking them to do it. I would love to watch a few salesmen struggle over it the way I have. I am just afraid they would try to charge me for it. Probably make me pay my $100 warranty deductible. LOL.

I reloaded mine and it kinda half-a$$ worked. It retracts good except for the last couple inches. It's good enough for me considering that it had no spring left in it at all. The directions are kinda confusing and took me a little while to figure out but once I took a look at how the thing actually works I was able to figure it out.
