I'm interested in lifting my 95'. I can't find lift kits anywhere for Explorers between 95' and 97'. If any one could point me in the right direction that would be great.

You will find more than enough info. Unfortunately for you, 95-97 had welded supports for the IFS. 98 Ford finally started bolting them on, thus we have kits. It is not impossible to lift your 95, but it is much more extensive, requires cutting and welding. You can always do a Torsion Twist and new shackles, that will give you 1-1/2" - 2". Ray Lobato 03-12-2002, 03:44 PM Hi Shane, and welcome to the site. I used to go up to Nampa on business. I liked going to to the cheese factory and getting some squeaky cheese. Well lifting your truck can be done, but you will have to modify the rear torsion bar brackets on whatever lift kit you buy. right now there are 3 kits that you can use. Trailmaster 98+ Explorer kit Trailmaster 98+ Ranger kit Superlift 98+ Ranger kit All are 4" lifts, and all will have to have the rear torsion bar brackets modified. The rest of it is all bolt on. If you are not in a real big hurry to get a lift, the word is that RCD is making a coilover 5.5" lift for Rangers that could be adapted for an Explorer. IMHO that is the way to go. I have a Trailmaster 98 Ranger lift, but think it lacks a bit. I'm waiting for the RCD kit to come out. Texplorer 03-12-2002, 04:06 PM Superlift has a 4" kit made for the 95-97 Explorers so you dont have to put a ranger kit on anymore. Do you stil have to modify the t-bar brackets? Texplorer 03-12-2002, 04:22 PM Apparently they have a whole new bracket system that comes down on the sides of the original t-bar brackets. So the original bracket is not used. The t-bars are mounted to the new brackets. Jason_25 03-12-2002, 04:26 PM Very nice! That's good news. I hope RCD follows in this directions as well with their t-bar kit. addkev 03-12-2002, 04:29 PM Wow, thats good news for you guys. Where did you hear about this and where can we see it? It's not on Superlift's home page. I've seen this rumor thrown around here a few times now with no proof. If it's true, than that's great, but I wanna know for sure. Texplorer 03-12-2002, 07:19 PM Its not on their website so you have to call them and ask for it. But they have had it out for a little over a month now. Flounder 03-12-2002, 09:58 PM What's it run? Just curious as this makes selling the 96 for a 98 or 99 a little less likely... :-) Texplorer 03-12-2002, 10:22 PM It runs about $1,500. I think they mentioned a skid plate package for 1,800 but Im not sure about that. Stephen S 03-13-2002, 12:39 AM I think I have a phone call to make tomorrow. Shane C. 03-13-2002, 06:44 PM I've heard that 95' to 97's front ends are welded together, so you can't lift them without alot of cuting. Is this true? If so how dos Superlifts new kit work. I can install a kit easy enuf, but I'm not sure about all the cuting and welding. Stephen S 03-13-2002, 10:09 PM The rear torsion bar mounts on the 95-97s are welded to the frame and must be cut off to install "traditional" replacement, drop down bracketry. The 98+ Explorers have bolted on torsion bar mounts. The rumor I heard here is that the supposed 95-97 Superlift 4" lift uses a bracket that piggybacks (maybe) the stock welded on rear torsion bar mount, to make the lift kit bolt on. As far as I know, there is no truth to this rumor. I haven't seen it, and I haven't had the chance to call Superlift to ask them about it, but something tells me it's not true. Superlift is going to have a kit for the 01+ Sport Trac, but it also uses bolt on rear mounts. This kit could probably be used on a 95-97 if you could find a way to change the current rear torsion bar mounts. Texplorer 03-13-2002, 11:24 PM Apparently they have a whole new bracket system that comes down on the sides of the original t-bar brackets. So the original bracket is not used. The t-bars are mounted to the new brackets. This is what the representative at superlift told me over the phone. Shane C. 03-14-2002, 07:34 PM I called SuperLift, and they said that the 95' is the odd ball and there knew kit is just for 96'-97'. Jason_25 03-14-2002, 09:58 PM Originally posted by Shane C. I called SuperLift, and they said that the 95' is the odd ball and there knew kit is just for 96'-97'. I say that's B.S. 95-97 front ends are identical except for the vaccum coupling on 95-96's. I will guarantee it will work on a 95 if it will work on a 96 or 97. Stephen S 03-14-2002, 10:02 PM So this kit actually exists?? Where can we see pictures of it, and buy it. Cause Superlift does not sell direct. Does anyone stock it yet? Texplorer 03-14-2002, 10:09 PM The price is highlighted in yellow. I dont see any reason it wouldnt work on a 95. 95-97 Explorer lift (http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/fd4_mid.htm) Stephen S 03-14-2002, 11:12 PM This could be good! I hope it's not a typo. It's damn expensive though! $1500 I wonder if it will work on 2wd too. I still wanna see the hardware though. Jason_25 03-14-2002, 11:14 PM Originally posted by Stephen S This could be good! Stephen it would probably work on a 2WD but why bother when you can get 3" lift spindles for like half the price? oso_polar 03-14-2002, 11:42 PM Don't worry about the money, go and get yourself a bodylift!! that's what I said to myself about 8 months ago... :fire: :fire: :fire: NO TIRES YET!! :fire: :fire: :fire: Stephen S 03-14-2002, 11:52 PM Good point Jason. Forgot about those for a minute. It'll give an extra inch, and it's a true suspension lift (for the cool factor) but it'll actually be worse for ground clearance than the spindles would. I won't be getting one myself (can't afford it)...I'm just happy to see that there is something available. Robert 03-15-2002, 10:38 AM If someone wants to start a fund, I would be willing to be the first to tryout the kit. Let's say that everyone send me their money and when I have enough for the kit I will get it and then do a complete write-up on my experiences. All right, well at least I tried, you guys are worse than my Wife :( |
