View Full Version : Flying the Flag? DocVijay 04-02-2002, 03:47 PM Are you still flying a flag on your X? jimbo74 04-02-2002, 03:53 PM no...although i will as soon as i find a more durable flag and get my truck running.... those walmart flags only lasted for a week before they started to unravel.... when i fix my truck i am getting fdny in memory stickers, california state firefighters association sticker, fd trailer hitch cover and a star of life sticker...and a tough flag that will fly from my cb antenna 10 feet above the ground TwoToneX 04-02-2002, 03:57 PM I don't have a flag, but I have a sticker saying - "We Will Remember, 9-11-01" I've thought about taking it off and putting a flag but there's no good place to mount one...we'll see I suppose. Black Magic 04-02-2002, 04:28 PM I want to thank everyone who is "Flying the Flag" by driving an American Made and Owned automobile! I think that everyone who does is Flying their Flag everyday! http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/images/us.gif I love the USAhttp://www.explorerforum.com/forums/images/us.gif espnfreak 04-02-2002, 04:49 PM The flag I had doesn't hold real well on my vehicle. Maybe I'll get some sort of 9-11 remeberance sticker, that would be nice and would last longer Harry5150 04-02-2002, 05:10 PM I'm a little disapointed with the people in my area. I seem to be one of the few that still have a US Flag (sticker) on their truck/auto. After the tradgedy, everyone was proudly flying them and now it seems passe. The same thing happens when the Lakers win the championship. Flags everywhere then a few weeks later they're all gone except for the true die hards. Shouldn't we be true die hards for the US? I think so. On the other hand, it's dissapointing to see a huge, dirty, & tattered Flag flying in a bed of a pickup truck. The Flag should be retired and replaced. I can understand if your Flag has deteriorated like jimabena's and have removed it of course, but people were standing in lines months ago when 9/11 happend and now I would imagine that some people are saying that they don't have time to get one. The Flags are everywhere now and even cheaper. I say lets put them back up! For those who still have them, rock on! My $.02. Dre 04-02-2002, 05:19 PM Flag sticker is on the truck permanently..... as the flag at my house...... it's been there since the 9/11 and it's not going down........ it might be replaced but will never go down!! jimbo74 04-02-2002, 05:26 PM dre...stickers cant be permanent.... replace it if it looks screwy though.... i have seen a lot of cars around here that still have them even though they are tattered half pink and purple flags..... it is more tasteful to remove those and not have any than to have one that looks like you stole it from a trashcan Dre 04-02-2002, 05:32 PM mine is still as good as new...and it's just the flag.... no letters, no messages - that's not important...... but I do have a few to replace it with if it comes down to that. DocVijay 04-02-2002, 06:21 PM I use my wife's grandfather as an exapmle. He flew a bomber in WWII over Italy and Germany. He's been flying his flag every day since he got back in 1945. In the morning he hobbles out (he's got a bad hip) and raises his flag, and every night he takes it down. He's a patriot. He's an American. So I'll fly a flag on my ar. When the one I have gets worn, it'll be retired and replaced with a new one. Then that one will be replaced, then that one, and so on. I wasn't born in this country, but I sure as hell am an American now, and I'll fly the flag to show it. X-Dawg 04-02-2002, 11:27 PM I have flown the Stars and Stripes all my life.. I have it on the X and I fly one at my home. God Bless the U.S.A. !! Jim IgotTwo 04-04-2002, 03:02 AM Yes I do! One on each side.... on lower corner of rear window.. each about 4"x6"....both Xs. I made a lot of them on the computer and gave them out to a whole bunch of people. I taped em on the inside so they stay looking good... as they should. It went on two days after 9/11 and to think they are still cleaning up that mess at the WTC....talk about heros God Bless America Brian8 04-04-2002, 10:13 AM I still have mine on my truck and will always be there as like at my house we have the flag flying and that won't ever stop either. :us: nak4af 04-04-2002, 11:34 PM It seams that only a week before the terrorist attacks many people were'nt too crazy about "America" Just days before the attack I seen almost no patriotism! But soon as the attack happened, everyone was a "patriot". When people ask me why I don't fly a flag I tell them this... Everyday when I wake up and put on my uniform I am showing my partiotism. I do what I do so people can live and enjoy the freedom that our fathers gave them. I am willing to leave my own family and give my life for all Americans so they can partake in that freedom. So do I fly the flag? Everyday I go to work I fly it higher than anyother flag. I have sworn to protect it and all who are under it. (Taken from "ETIQUETTE of the STARS and STRIPES" by Veterans Of Foreign Wars of the United States) The Continental Congress of 1777 declared that the white stars in a field of blue shall represent a "new constellation". George Washington described the white in the Flag as symbolizing our desire for liberty - the land of the free. We say the red signifies the courage and sacrafices of the nation's defenders, and the blue has been linked to the loyalty and unity of our citizens. So for those that I know that "Jumped on the Band Wagon"...root for the home team or get the hell out of the stadium!! God Bless you all! SSgt Christopher L. Lloyd United States Air Force Elmendorf AFB, Alaska DocVijay 04-04-2002, 11:56 PM nak4af: I salute you and all the other sons and daughters of America that keep us free. Thanks. nak4af 04-05-2002, 12:01 AM No! Thank you!! You are the reason I do it. And the appreciation you just showed makes it all worthwhile! "Returned Salute" DocVijay 04-05-2002, 08:50 AM I have a lot of friends and family in the military. My wife's cousin just left for Afghanistan and my best friend went to Korea about two weeks ago. Other than that we have family all over the place in both Army and Navy (sorry, no Air Force, although her grandfather was Army Air Corp in WWII). Besides my wife and I may become military also. We are checking our options right now. We'd both enter as Captains and my wife would be a Major within three years. But at the moment, it's only an idea. Nothing firm yet. IgotTwo 04-05-2002, 03:14 PM DocVijay: Well I'm sure you will make the right decision and good luck to you, but on a lighter note : That “Major stuff “ makes me hesitate for a moment... that could be a husband’s worst nightmare or a wife’s ticket to heaven. Does that mean you have to salute her and she can order you to take out the garbage? ......or is there a special provision in the Military Code of Conduct? If not, the Foreign Legion might look more appealing and a whole less complicated. That ‘s a bigger trap that “I DO” DocVijay 04-05-2002, 08:38 PM Originally posted by IgotTwo ...and she can order you to take out the garbage? So basically nothing would change. Besides, I'd be a Captain, so I wouldn't be too far behind. IgotTwo 04-05-2002, 10:24 PM You probably right. I hear you... I thought it could have some unique and interesting situations on a relationship given the miltitary. Maybe not. Myself, I would still keep that section about "unlawful" commands handy, just in case. Good luck to you and yours. nak4af 04-05-2002, 10:36 PM So basically nothing would change. Heck! My wife is a civilian and I take orders from her!! Sorry to say fellas...but it has became a womans world. Even the President has to humble himself from time to time (or sleep on the couch). jshexplo96 04-18-2002, 11:56 AM Nak4AF, When i read this poll i thought to myself that "i dont fly the flag" and i was trying to think of something to reply with that could justify that. Well needless to say i was at a loss for words until i read you reply. And i would like to say that its sums it up beautifully for those of us in the service. I was in the service before 9/11(and didnt have a flag on my X) and i am still in the service and still yet to get one. Thought about it but decided i do enough by putting on my uniform every morning! Lasts longer:D rino351 11-28-2004, 09:42 PM I got one of those "Support our troops" magnet deally mabobers on my truck, but I think the carwash ate it. Now I have to get another. Critical_Level2 11-28-2004, 10:03 PM Flag #1 (U.S.) - Soemone stole it while I was at the mall (do not ask me why? ) Flag #2 (U.S.) - Lost it on I-95 (was there at 80, broke off between 90-95) Flag #3 (eagles flag) - Some jealous ravens fan broke it off before the game, luckily a bunch of other eagles fans came over to help dispense justice. Flag #4 (U.S.) - Ravens fan broke this one after the eagles one and called me unamerican SoBeLover 11-29-2004, 10:10 PM I got one of those "Support our troops" magnet deally mabobers on my truck, but I think the carwash ate it. Now I have to get another. I've had those on my truck along with an American flag one that said "Freedom Isn't Free", both times they have been stolen off my truck when it was parked at home :fire: I had an American flag decal that stuck to my truck all of two weeks before it started to come off. I have to get some more magnets and remove them when I park my truck for the night. GONRACIN 11-30-2004, 10:00 AM I had a small like 3x6 Canadian flag on my radio antenna, but someone stole it like 2 days after I put it one...right now I'm trying to find a bigger one, like a 8x15 or something to put on my roof-mounted CB aerial... |
