Hi all,
I have a 97 XLT with 112, 000 miles. It stopped dead 2 weeks ago. Shop said a bolt holding crankshaft to harmonic balance slipped loose. They found the bolt and replaced but 2 weeks later the bolt came out again and it died again. My question is should i get it welded in , therebt negating any future repairs, if they become necessary, replace the engine, or call Ford. Why would thiis happen? and keep happening? My mechanic said he has seen it happen but rarely with an Explorer engine. Could there be some underlying problem that is causing theis to happen? Has anyone out there had anything similar? How did you handle it? Thanks

Is this with the SOHC or the OHV?

Well if you pop the hood and look at the plastic cover on the engine does it say SOHC or 4.0L EFI?

Hmm if I were you I would take it to another mechanic for a second opinion. It could be that the first mechanic didn't do the job right.
