Ok my brakes were getting old and I replaced them with Raybestos Quietstop pads (in front), right around Christmas 2001. That still did not stop the vibration when stopping though. It also got progressively worse. So I had the rotors turned in February. When I got it back, same old thing. So here it is April and I am looking for new rotors. I have come to a conclusion, NOONE has any good adice about brake rotors. These shops don't have a clue. I have also come to a conclusion that brake rotors for a SLA explorer are expensive as hell! NAPA quoted me $144 for 2 front rotors!!!! Needless to say I will not go back there again. What it boils down to is that I don't want the brakes to squeal, and I dont want them to pulsate when stopping. But it seems like everywhere I look, I get different opinions from people.

Just put some new rotors on from here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1820081723
And get some performance friction pads.
Cheap, good performance.

Turning rotors on a newer vehicle can be a catch-22. They are making them lighter to save weight, which usually means they are thinnner. Therefore they don't disperse the heat as well and warp easier. When you turn them, you make them even thinner, and the problem gets worse. Now this isn't true for all vehicles, but it is for most new ones. Fortunately MOST rotors aren't that expensive. My dad used to have a late 80's Crown Vic, and the rotors were $19 each. Forget turning them at that price!! Unfortunately, some of them are quite expensive. My tech at work has an older Audi Quattro V8 and his rotors are about $300 EACH!!
Best thing to do is make sure you don't let the pads go too long and don't overheat the brakes by riding them or hammering them a lot.

get a set of cheep rotors from autozone with a set of soft pads mine only cost $87 from autozone for all the parts. Use soft pads to prevent squeel
