Well, got it in the mail today!

My performance meter: a dash mounted accelerometer unit that can measure performance stats while driving. This one: www.race-technology.com

Very cool unit, tested it in my friend's car already. Too bad Splat is still in the shop. Anyway, can measure between any 2 speeds, measures G on 2 axis, takes into account weight, wind, and rolling resistance to calculate power. Lots of other cool stuff too!

I'll let y'all know more about it after I mount it in Splat. Oh, it's been tested to be as accurate as going to the track, unlike other machines like it that can be highly inaccurate.

im assuming youre talking about the g-tech?

i hate to be that guy who doesnt read all the specs on this unit or the g-tech, but what are the main differences?...or, in other words, why'd you pick this one over the g-tech?

more features and accuracy. The Gtech basically only does 0-60, 60-0, lateral G, longitudinal G, 1/4 mile and related stuff.

The AC22 measures between any 2 speeds, can do both G axes at once, and can measure between any 2 distances. Gives you speed info by 10 mph increments, and 1/4 by distance increments. Horsepower calc is more accurate due to input factors. Overall more accurate due to tilt calc. With the Gtech, you can't do G and speed tests at the same time. This one you can.

Overall just a better unit. Oh, and full instruction book and it's polite cause it's English :)

oh wow :) very cool. congrats on the new toy ;) when you get splat back, let us know what it runs.

also, how 'bout a track comparison. do a run at the track with the unit and see what it reads compared to what the track time was...

Which meter did yiou get, Alec, the AP22 or the AC22?

Thanks.....

The AC22, the one without the computer hookup. As for comparisons, I don't have much time to go to the track at all, so I dunno. Though I can let a friend use it who went to the track a few weeks ago....

I am interested in the g force measurements. How do you plan on doing skid pad testing?

Thanks....

Plenty of nice empty parking lots in Austin that used to belong to internet start-ups ;)

Alec, have you read the manual on the g force calculations? Do they offer suggestions on how to do it? How do you plan on doing it?

Thanks.....

Aldive, the AC22 doesn't calculate G tests like the magazines do. The magazines have a skid pad with a known radius and measure the time for the car to go around the circle. Then they calculate G from that. Since the AC22 is an accelerometer, it fundamentally measures G. Therefore, you don't need to set up a pad of known dimensions or anything, you just turn as hard as you can and it measures the G of your turn. Already tested it in a stock vehicle and it matched Car&Driver's skid pad number.

Thanks for the explanation,

By the way, what was that number ( g )?

Thanks

Well, I got my truck back today and mounted the unit. I'm still waiting for my tranny to break in a bit until I really run it hard, so I won't have WOT times for a little bit.

I did however test the 1/4 mile timer just for fun, 21.76 seconds at 51.56 mph :) Lol, city streets, only about a quarter throttle. It works! Tomorrow I'm gonna have some fun and test the cornering and power calcs.

Lol, thats what I probably run on a full throttle. Look forward to seeing some 6s 0-60 times!
