I hope this is the right place for this type of post, I'm new here and didn't see an area for interior repair.

Vehicle: 97 sport

Today the drivers window went down, came about half way up and quit. The motor is still running, it tries to lift it but it cocks like it is coming out of the track or something.

I took the door panel off and was able to get the window down all the way by pushing on it. I can't see anything wrong... except....

The arm that comes from the motor assembly to the scissor arms appears to be twisted and bent. I don't know if this is normal. It looks like the window may have stuck and it bent the arm. Is this possible or is that what it looks like normally?

If I don't get a reply soon, I'll take the passenger side apart and check it out. I'm hoping someone here may have seen a similar problem.

I think someone may have tried to break into the explorer. I did look at the other side and arm isn't supposed to be bent like that.

I can't imagine that the motor would have enough power to bend that thing, I'm guessing someone tried real hard to slim jim it and got ahold of the window arm, then yanked the bjeesus out of it. :eek:

How big of a job is it pulling the whole window assembly out ?

Nah , it wasn't from some one trying to break in.
I have seen this pretty frequently.
Your glass got hung up on some thing and as the window motor pushed the glass did not move , so some thing had to give and it was the lift arms ( scissors )
The easy fix is to run down to your local salvage yard.
But note: Ford uses pop rivits to mount their door glass.

Other wise grap two pair of channel-loc's and start twisting the lift arms thill they appear flat. Run the glass up and down several times to make sure they are clearing cach other. It will be a good bit of trial and error and probabally a few bad words but you gotta do what you gotta do.

i had the same problem ..at first i didn't see ...then i noticed that the window had come out of the glass mount....i had to push on the window to open it and it would go up alright. so roll the window down about half way and pull up on it if it moves your mount is screwed..I used 2 ton epoxy to seal the window mount and it worked well ,no problems since. I hope this can help someone

Well, because I was/am too busy with work I sent it off the the local garage to be replaced.

They couldn't figure out what caused it. The mechanic thinks if someone tried to break in they'd have broken the glass pulling on it that hard. But I still am amazed the motor has enough torque to bend that arm like that.
