View Full Version : Hit from Behind....Alarm Acting crazy...car won't start.

On the way to work today I got hit from behind by an 18 wheeler. The damage isn't to bad really, but the car won't start. I have a Viper alarm and it is completely freaking out. It starts going off when ever it feels like it, and is just not acting correctly. When I try to start the car...the engine attempts to turn once, and then the starter keeps cranking, but it will not start. This leads me to believe the ignition kill feature of the alarm is not at fault, beacause on my 93 Cobra, the ignition kill will not even let the starter turn. Still...since the alarm is freaking out, it makes me think it has something to do with it. Is there a fuel shut-off that could have been activated when I got hit from behind? If so...how do I check that? The Explorer in question is a 1995 Eddie Bauer with 113K miles. Thanks for any help.

Yes you better check the fuel shutoff:D

The Explorer does have a fuel shutoff switch activated by accidents. The switch is located in different places in different years, so I can't tell you exactly where it is. Do you have an owners manual? It's in there.

I have a 2001 (which is a Gen II like yours) and it's under the front seat passanger foot area. Pretend the passanger had an emergency break, it's right there.

Checked the fuel shut-off. It is still engaged. Maybe the alarm is at fault. It never acted like this before, just after this hit. I guess I'll try to unistall it, or at least the ignition kill portion. Anyone know which color wire is for what? I think most alarms use the same color wiring scheme. I'll just disable the alarm and ignition kill and leave the door lock/unlock on. Unless of course the alarm brain is fried, in which case it is time to trash it. Any more suggestions? Thanks.
