View Full Version : Do women driving big trucks scare you?
red96camaro 05-15-2002, 08:24 PM They scare me, I am always extra cautious when I see a women driving some huge SUV. Their most common error is changing lanes without looking  I have seen this too many times. I bet sometimes they would sideswipe a small car and not even notice and keep driving! lol :D
TwoToneX 05-15-2002, 08:29 PM Yes!!! I realize that there are a lot of women drivers that are very very safe. And I also realize there are a lot of women drivers that can handle a 4x4 better than some men, and most jeepers :p I also want to say that every female on this board is an excellent driver and I would never want to offend any of them :D
Now that I've got that out of the way...
Lived in Texas for high school...I was scared every morning because women in big ol' duallys would come rip roaring around corners and not pay attention to stop/yield signs because they thought they owned the road. Also, I don't think some of them realize that you have to actually switch it into 4x4 for it to actually BE 4x4. Some would just drive regular when it was raining hard outside, or on a rare occasion of ice. They'd blaze by me or I'd see one on the side of the road in a ditch.
offroader_69_me 05-15-2002, 08:39 PM kinda scary but I like it too, there is a HOT blonde that drives around a big *eep here in town almost got myself in trouble with her once she was behind me and say my "If its a jeep thing I dont want to understand" sticker and pulled be over and actually was very knowledgable about vehicles then the G/F came by and saw us almost dumped my ass then found out she is friends with the chicks BF so I was ok. But there is something about a girl that is driving a Big truck!

Well got one thing to say to this.....:mattmoon: There have been too many times that I have been cut off...almost sideswiped or almost run off the road by a toad (of the male gender mind you) chatting on the cell phone...playing with the radio or just out and out acting like big sh*t behind the wheel of their trucks, cars, vans and yes even motorcycles..... sometimes it was the total lack of attention...sometimes it was just being a big {beep}....yeah I know women do it....and really guys....I think it's about 50-50.... ya know what's really annoying? being behind someone who is in deep conversation with someone on the cell phone ....the sign says 45mph....we're goin about 10-15 at the most...

red96camaro 05-15-2002, 08:46 PM Most young drivers suck, male or female, I couldn't drive for $%^& at one point, haha.
With the driving of big trucks though I think the females get the higher percentage of "harmful driving"
there is a HOT blonde that drives around a big *eep here
Does she still have a boyfriend? LOL
mattadams 05-15-2002, 08:59 PM I get a little scared... but at the same time, I get a lot turned on :).
Gonzo 05-15-2002, 09:14 PM I get a little scared... but at the same time, I get a lot turned on .
Ditto. There is just something about a chick in a pickup. WHOA! better watch where I'm driving. Anyone have any close calls while, um... not watching the road ?
RoadEnforcer 05-15-2002, 09:24 PM i would have to say i am more hesitant around the females driving the huge azz trucks.... I just think of someone like my mother driving it... and I get scared.
Women driving anything scares me.
TarHeel085 05-15-2002, 09:59 PM i think women in minivans are more scary than women in trucks. women in general also, a girl almost hit me today!
Gonzo 05-15-2002, 10:12 PM Actually, there are plenty of good women drivers out there (and plenty of bad men drivers). My mom is a very safe driver- no tickets (never even been pulled over), no accidents, absolute clean record. My dad tries to eat/shave/talk on the phone/shift gears all at the same time! I have saved him from a few accidents by being a "backseat driver." I don't know how he gets by when nobody is with him watching the road for him. Then there's my sister. WHOA! better watch out. It might just be better to pull off to the side of the road and let her go where she wants. I won't even list all the little "incedents" she's had with busses/cliffs, etc... and that was in a small town. Now she lives in So Cal:rolleyes:
GJarrett 05-15-2002, 10:20 PM I think I'll move this thread over to the "Explorer Babes" forum and see what happens :D
Hang on Gerald!!! Let me edit my post.
ahhjaws 05-15-2002, 10:30 PM If they know what they are doing and are good drivers, I am not worried. I know a lot of good women drivers. An example of a bad woman driver would be when I was going through Denver. A nice yellow corvette changed lanes right into where another car was with two kids in the back. Fortunately the other driver saw and pulled onto the shoulder. I don't think the corvette still didn't know there was a car there. She then proceeded to drive 70mph weaving through traffic. Crazy.
jimbo74 05-15-2002, 10:40 PM i met a gal the other night at a churckh event and went out on a date with her afterwards... she wants to have a job at GILLIG! and also wants to help me do my fabrication work on my explorer!!!!!! now that is the kinda truck driving woman i like.... that doesnt scare me.... :) i like the tough gals :) AND she saw my truck and thought it was cool even before she met me!!!!!!!:D
mattadams 05-15-2002, 10:42 PM Jim, I'm not sure what gillig is? But I'd say marry her, LOL
jimbo74 05-15-2002, 10:45 PM Matt, GILLIG is one of the companies that makes school buses & she wants to be a mechanic there  ;) :bounce: ;) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally man! I saw a chick driving an F-350, lifted, running 35's this morning. Scared the hell out of me! I felt slightly intimidated running in front of her. But, I bet she would get stuck quicker on the trail!

actually, i think she is exactly the kind of girl i am looking for.... she is one of those tough girls.... but is still femine enough... especially with the jeans and sweatshirt she had on..... the sweatshirt was baggy and the jeans fit nicely and were the flared style at the bottom... but man... just talking with her was sooo cool.....

Couldn't agree more! I've dubbed them "Minivan Mamas" because they usually have kids in the back while they fly down the road - I suppose in order to get their carpet crawlers to school/soccer practice/etc. on time. They also typically fail to pay attention at stop lights requiring a little motivation to get going <HONK!> :)
espnfreak 05-16-2002, 04:59 PM Yeah, the minivan drivers are definately worse
speaking of bad women drivers... one almost hit me today. My town is too cheap to buy a real mail truck so they have oldsmobile station wagons, which is fine except the pedals and sterring wheel are still on the left while the WOMAN is on the right. The pedals are controled with her left foot and steering wheel with her left hand ONLY. ( I can't believe they are allowed to do this). Anyway, you would think that since this is there job they would have a routine down... ya know, pull over, open mailbox, insert mail, close mailbox, look over shoulder and pull out. Seems simple enough. Well this one left out the look over shoulder step and ignoring all traffic just pulls out. Now since I love my truck and myself I am a defensive driver and know enough to proceed with caution when there is a woman behind the wheel. It was a close call. I had to change my pants when I got home.
Gonzo 05-16-2002, 11:29 PM The mail car situation sounds like my town.

Well I wonder why it is then that MALE drivers ages 16-28 have The highest insurance rates all over the country?? Hmmm could it be recklessness ? Could it be inaattention ? Could it be that the crap they pull constantly makes everyone around them crap their pants 10 times more often than any minivan drivin kid carrying Caravan? hhhmm let me think.....no....I think they are just out to get all that nice green money you make and are being totally unfair ...I mean what is a race or two at speeds of 100+?
UUmm now how does it feel to be profiled? Like it? nahh I guess ya didn't...
Sorry just had to flame ya.... you guys are gettin out of hand with the stupid women thing.....time to put your brains back in your skull and outta your a**...
Thank you....steppin down from the soap box now
Karol
Explorer Girl 05-17-2002, 02:05 PM Amen Karol! Think it over a little bit guys . . .
Gonzo 05-17-2002, 02:59 PM Well, my sister and I must be the exception. I have an ablolutely clean record. no accidents, tickets, nothing. My sister on the other hand has a not so clean record. 3 accidents, 1 totaled...1st and 2nd year driving. No speeding tickets yet (I'm surprised). My mom got in a big argument with the insurance company because my sister has a bad record and I have a good record, yet she still pays less than I do just because she is a girl. I don't think it's fair that they base your rates on your sex. (I know there are other reasons too). If they tried to do it the other way around they would probably get sued for sexual discrimination. I think everyone should start out with the same rate, and then adjust it according to your grades and driving record.
I understand where you are coming from with that but you have to understand where we are coming from also. There are good and bad drivers of every age/sex group. My insurance rates are out of this world but I have a clean record. I took drivers education years ago when I was in high school and I still take defensive driving courses. I consider myself to be a very safe driver. I never pull stupid stunts and I have never gone more than 80 MPH and that was on a highway where I was one of the slower people. I personally think that guys will have a better sense of how to manuver a vehicle than girls... not all guys but most. Hell, my sister cant back up for her life, yet I can squeeze my SUV into places most people would never think of taking cars. Everyone thinks different... some people understand how cars move and some dont. You have to be comfortable with your cars size, wheel base and turning capabilities. There are a lot of things that make up a good driver.
Gonzo 05-17-2002, 03:03 PM I don't think driving skill has anything to do with sex.

Well first off.... I'd like to know just how you came to such a conclusion... and secondly....
having the male sex organ does not give you a better sense of manuverablity. I'm sorry to say..... but in this sense....with age comes wisdom... and to add....sometimes you have the knack of driving and sometimes you don't...has nothing to do with what sex you are.
I do believe that everyone should start off with the same rate.... you misunderstood me.... I was just making a point about being profiled.... I really want to know if you really honestly tense up whenever you see a woman behind the wheel?
Gonzo 05-20-2002, 02:59 PM The only time I get nervous when I see a woman behind the wheel is when I can tell she's not paying as much attention to driving as she should be (talking on phone, putting on makeup, talking to a bunch of other people in the car, etc). It makes no difference if it is a man or a woman.

i tense up too, like matt.... but sometimes i tense up becuasethe woman is beautiful and driving a phat truck!!!!!
and defending the gals a little bit.... there are horrible male drivers too........ the great gal that i like now, mentioned in above posts, had her car totalled and took out 2 light poles becuase some a$$hole guy in a huge van ran a red light..... she will hopefully be collecting $100k from his insurance company soon
I can deal with most bad drivers on the road.
But I'm scared of this guy:
http://www.race-dezert.com/wwwthreads/files/5-16713-F550.jpg
I see him (or someone with a truck very much like his) driving around town quite a bit. He drives like he is The King of the road (and for all practical purposes I soppose he is). He could care less about stop signs/lights, lanes, etc. It gets even worse when a "ricer" beats him off the line. . . talk about road rage  Even I feel like a toy next to him. . . I can't imagin what the ricers feel like.
jimbo74 05-20-2002, 04:04 PM i saw that in a magazine once.... it was that truck too.... same driver.... he does live in southern ca.... jeff, i feel sorry for you......that guy driving like a jerk scares me more than any minivan.... a minivan couldnt do too much damage to my truck..... but that thing could...

yob_yeknom 05-21-2002, 12:03 PM Women drivers in general scare me. About 99.9% of them shouldn't be allowed to drive.
mattadams 05-21-2002, 12:09 PM ouch monkey boy, thats askin for trouble...

:mattmoon: he knows what I think of that !!
Karol
Monkey Boy is right...In Virginia women are horrible drivers, especially in Virginia Beach. We get all the 18-22 year old sailors in their ricers who find it fun to race at the strip and on the interstate. Cops can't seem to pull over enough people. And you know what? Just about half of the tickets are written to women. Imagine that! Anyways, enough ranting. I love the females, but I wouldn't let one drive my Ex!!! :D
rocket 5979 05-21-2002, 11:18 PM man that dude in that 550 superduty has the baddest truck i think i have ever seen. the only thing better or bigger than that would be a specialy modified dump truck(which would be awesome) if done right. lol. but if that dude ever tried that "King of the Road" crap with me he would regret it. now about the women driving thing.......well let me say this......since everyone here is generalizing waaaaaaayyy too muc i will say this. it has been my experience that more women drivers I KNOW have had more accidents and for dumber reasons than the male drivers i know. now that is not to say that the rest of the world isnt the opposite from ym little wotn. like i said before i am not going to generalize like that. i am just making an honest observation of what i have seen. but on the other hand i would say that any adrenaline pumped a**hole male driver racing out of control is wayyyyy worse than a female driver that just doesnt feel comfortable with her vehicle. my mother is the perfect example. the reason she is a bad driver has nothing to do wit intelligence or anything else it has to do with the fact that she is soooooo tiny she cant see that well out of her car. and she doesnt have a big car either. she just doesnt feel comfortable driving anything larger than a midsize coupe. and if a person does not feel comfortable with something they are going to be alot more apt to screw up and have a brain fart than if they are at perfect harmony with the vehicle. i hope that this answer satisfies both the women and then men who read this. and if not well then ok because it is still my opinion. thanks.
kkreit01 05-22-2002, 04:35 PM Women drive big trucks the same reason we do: "to get a better view of the opposite sex in the next lane -- driving a car"....
Josh S. 05-22-2002, 07:59 PM true-My opinion on this deal is that if th chick is paying attention and has a year or so experience under her belt, she is cool by me. But, if she isn't paying attention, I don't like the feeling. Come to think of it, I am not comfortable driving around females. I raced this chick in a late model ranger last night (and beat her) but I just don't think-from my experience-females generally think outside the box. For example, checking the oil, taking care of their cars, or thinking ahead while driving about everything that could happen.i.e., a car pulls out, a kid jumps into the road. Also, whenever someone pulls out of a driveway and cuts me off and goes slow, its usually a chick. Maybe you girls on this forum are different, but thats what I've seen. I was driving an almost cherry 69' vw bus before I got my x. I put so much time and work into that thing it was insane! But...me and my buddy were cruisin' through a parking lot going to a restaraunt so he could talk to a chick, and this asian woman runs a stop sign perpendicular to me and tags me right in front of my rear wheel on the side. Needless to say, my bus skidded around 90 degrees, then proceeded to roll over. Now, that woman totaled my car that I poured so much into so that's why I generalize about woman drivers.:smoke:
Rhett 05-25-2002, 12:09 AM Like someone else said here, in MY _experience_ I have known more females to have gotten into wrecks than males. ...
I better just leave it at that :)
diablo5969 05-27-2002, 10:37 PM My experience tells me that out of all the people I've driven with from my high school, the girls are the ones who pay less attention to driving, don't know simple rules like to turn the lights on when it's raining, and think they are a princess and are queen of the road so they can do whatever they want regardless of whether or not there was a Buick in that lane they just switched in to

My experience tells me that 99% of every driver out there (woman or not) falls into this category. Seriously, is it just me, or have the number of idiots behind the wheel grown exponentially in the last couple of years or so? I don't drive anymore, I dodge stupid people.
Mike
Asian drivers male and female are the WORST! When it comes to women minivan drivers, they are beyond description. They are the ones who blow right through schools zones to drop their kids off, yet expect the police to ticket everyone, but them. Blue Hairs - male and females sssuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!
The rest of the women drive just as bad as the men. You guys have your heads so far up your butts it's not even funny. Get the HELL off the road I own IT!!!!!!!!!
