Hey, does any one know where i could pick up some quick disconnects for my swaybar up front? Keep in mind there is a 3in lift so i couldnt make them my self cuz i need new dogbones, there stressing each other out at the angle because of my lift and i havnt found any on the net yet...Does any one know a good website i could go to that might have them or does have them? Thanks, it would be a BIG help:)

you could use hitch pins the same diamiter as the bolts to go through where you bones meet the arms.... then just tuck em away when your off roading. that would work fine....

You could cut your bone in half and add a piece to get the right angle. Then make a pin in the bottom or make the pin part of the piece you have added to the bone.

As you might know I had back surgery last Friday so I haven't had a chance to try out the 35's. We do like the looks a lot better.

The disconnects were pretty easy to make. The only back part is when they get full of dirt they are harder to get out, but if you keep them greased it seems to work well.

is there a big differance in front flex with em off ?

on My 88 BII she flex's much better without them connected, I mean I probably only gain an additional 1" of articulation, but she sure rides softer off road.....


Perry's setup is perfect. I like it.

You can use Explorer links with your lift on that 89, the Explorer links are a few inches longer and help with the lift, however I have a 4-5" lift on my BII and I still have the short (6" or so) "dogbones" on there and they work fine. Superlift also makes brackets that will actually drop the whole sway bar down, this is what they do on 6-8" lifts.....

You can buy expensive aftermarket Explorer disconnects that are similar to Jeeps but they are often noisy (clang clang!) and overpirced....Just do like Perry does...thats the ticket....Perry, I like the springs...Joe Dietz doesnt have the spring I dont think.....

The one thing I did that I don't think others do is machined down the pin. That way it fits tight. Most people drill out the holes in the brackets.

You don't need the springs, but that just keeps everything tight so it doesn't rattle. I know the first time the springs were to tight and I had to cut some off in order to get them on and off easier.

I don't think Joe has the springs either but it's been a while since I've seen his.

By the way do you have a locker in that little Bronco?

I don't know if running without a sway bar gives you that much flex, but I know the ride is a LOT SMOOTHER. I know Matt Adams doesn't disconnects his and he goes everywhere I do.

Right now she's just LS in the 8.8 disc brake rear, open in the D35 up front. I currently have the factory 3.73. It was all I could do to just get her lifted another 2" and install my Skyjacker radius arms before MOAB...

I am looking to re-gear to 4.56 (gonna trim for 33's) and install an ARB in teh D35, we'll see about the rear, I may go with an Auburn spool or a Detroit gearless.....If I had the $$$ I would just do both ARB's..

Joe doesn't have the springs in his. I should know I have the exact same set as him. :) His brother made them for him a long time ago. I lost one somewhere along the way and just put a bolt in there. Bolts seem to take just as long to yank out as a pin.

Really? Man when I get under there to undo the sway bars first it takes me 20 minutes just to find the 18mm box wrench and 18mm socket!

My question is where do you get those red handled pins? or do you bend and dip them youself???

Brett and I were tossing the idea around of making our own, similar to the aftermarket ones that are out there where the link itself is split into two sections, or one end is sleeved to fit the other....but these seem to always be noisy under normal driving.

Maybe I should just get some Rancho 9000's and take them off for good....of course towing a boat without sway bars would be interesting...

I got my pins at Country General when they were still in town.

I would say I can take mine off faster then you could take a bolt out Ryan, but if you aren't in a hurry then it doesn't matter. The only advantage of the quick disconnects is you don't have to get tools out.

I ran our Explorer the first year without the sway bars and RS9000's and you could really feel the body roll. It was really bad going downhill on the other side of the tunnel on I-70. Lots of body roll!!!! :confused:

I guess it's just a matter of how often you plan on taking them off and on.

Perry what are those pins ariginally designed for? I mean obviously the hardware store didnt sell them so you could make quick disconnects!! HAHAHA!!!

I'm gonna try to find some of those baby's....I know just the place, A&A Trading post, it's a specialty Ace Hardware....they have everything...

Not sure what they are made to do for sure, but we used them on the tractors back when I was a little kid.
When you go looking for them they will be about an inch longer then what shows up in the picture. I cut at least that much off before I was finished with them. Didn't think I needed that much extra room.

The springs were also just something I found at Country General. Not sure what they were used for either. The washers I figure are self explanatory.

Perry that is true. However my other pin is pretty rusted inside of the sleeve so it takes some doing to get that puppy out too. :)

410, the Trading post will have what you need. That is where Matt got his at. The only thing you will have to do is buy some aftermarket bushings because the inner diameter is 13mm or some weird crap like that which nothing seems to fit. At least on the Explorer. So he had to swap out to some Autozone bushings and racings and was able to use some hitch pins that were cut down to a decent size. :)

Hitch pins and a cotter pin are what you need. :D

thanks guys! I already have poly bushings in the links, and they are a much larger diameter hole then the factory rubber ones, the bolt actually slides in and out with some play! so that should work perfect....

Well THANKS GUYS, that was a big help, this weekend or sometime friday i will go down to the local junkyard and pick up some new dog bones because with mine, there all tweaked and shit becuase of the lift and dont want to go together snug. Then ill manage to find some pins and when im done ill let ya know :) I have a couple new pics on my site just in the wash, look at my front end with the swaybars connected, there will be a diff when there not. Thanks again.

I've got some quick disconnect pins on mine, kinda like perry's, but without the big handles and no little hairpin on the other end. It works perfect. I can't say where I got the pins though. (?Some guy got em for me?). here's what I got:

well i went to the junkyard and the dogbones on a 91 explorer are the same length as the ones on my 89 BII, and i also have a problem where the swaybar mounts becuase my lift has the duel hoop shock mounts so where the sway bar copnnects my mount for my second shock has a bracket there and i cannt make a disc. there it would have to be on the top part. any suggestions?

those are the ones they send for the 6" skyjacker lift. they are a lot longer than stock.

89BIIGUY, hey looks like you may have to disconnect the upper part of the dogbone since your shock hoop is in the way, or use the Explorer style disconnects that come apart in the middle.

Did your 89 come with a dana 35 up front?

Look for a 93+ Explorer, the dogbones should be a few inches longer, there is really not a whole lot of difference between your 89 and a 91 X, relatively speaking....

No, mine up front is D28, and that IS where i will need to disconnect them, is up on the top part. So you sayin a 93+ is a few inches longer? I looked at a 91 X and it was the same length, ill try and find some more X's today at the junkyard, can you believe this, there was ONLY 1 at our local junk yard >: )

Oh yea, where would i beable to get the explorer style disconnects?

Yeah see in CO we are lucky, we have so many dang Exploders in the yards they dont even bother with BII's anymore, which means BII parts are really cheap....

I forget who makes them but some company actually makes the disconnects for the Explorer....

Maybe search these boards.....
