I recently had some new radius arm bushings put on my 1994 XLT. They continue to make a real "creeky" type noise. Could someone send me some pics so I can compare work? I think he may have put them on backwards, but I don't want to persue it unless I know for sure. Thanks

Well, in some cases, you have to grease the bushing before you put them on or get them put on, they will squeek or make noises if you dont.

what's up basheer?

next time I come over we can compare radius arm bushings and possible get some grease or something to go on it.

Hey broncoIIguy, what kind of grease should we get?

I fixed the problem. I had one of my friends compare his radius arm to mine and it ended up that the mechanic put the bushings on backwards. FYI, in the future, you may want to watch them work on your ride. Thanks again.

Mine did the same because they are old but I sprayed them with a lil WD40 and the creeking disappeared.

I am pretty sure mine need the new bushing on the driver side.. I just got done putting in new Ball Joints and all the U-joints in the front axle last weekend.. and under there I noticed the rubber was all kinda squished out on the radiud arm mount on the drivers side.. and also before I installed the balljoints whenever I hit a bump I would hear a clunk noise.. and now after I still do.. I thought it was just the Ball joints.. but I guess I was wrong.. will it make a clunk noise if these mounts are shot?

Hey 1991XLT,

Mine made the clunking noise b/c the radius arm bushing was shot on the passenger side. One way to check is to get under your X and try to move the radius arm. Mine moved all over the place and the clunking came from the metal part of the bushing hitting on the nut of the bushing.

the bushing cost around 10 to 15 bucks. The problem is that its hard as a mug to install. I couldn't do it. One of the bolts would not come loose. I took it in and had one replaced for about 70 bucks.

P.S. this was in the boon docks so it might cost more in a big city

Why is everything so GD expensive to fix on the Explorer? Sorry guy's,I own one but will never buy another one. Gee,What will break on it this week? All of this and a whooping 15 mpg IF your lucky!

In order to fix the bushings yourself, you will need a spring compressor, and even then it is a difficult task. If I were you, call around and try and find a local auto shop that will install them for you.

What has been expensive for you? The low mileage probably has something to do with it needing a tuneup.....
