'95 XLT with 125k runs great and gets about 15 MPG. No pinging, knocking, rough idle occasionally but I can live with that, 4WD system works great, never had a problem with it. Although I think I do have blown head gaskets, it's all good!

Couldn't have said it better myself....
All it takes is persistance maintainance, and no abuse, and most anything should keep goin strong

Whistle? do you mean when you accelerate it makes a whistling noise? cause if thats what you mean then I have the same thing wrong with mine.. what is it?

I was thinking the same thing. Plus, wheel it a while and get back to us.

You guys know what?
My truck runs great! but i noticed that it sure does make a hell of a lot of noises!!!!

heres the list of the sounds i hear quite frequently

1. engine bay- i think the sound is from the alternator, cuz its a 130 amp but its like a loud whrilly sound..very hard to decribe.

2. When i hit bumps get a squeeking sound from the front wheels due braking the lower shock mounts when takin the old shocks off......my and and my do it your self fix works fine just squeeks.

3. when i let off the brake pedal, i then hear a noticable *squeek*.

4. the inside is noise when you hit bumps , This reallly bothers me because the noise makes it *seem* like the bumps are worse then they are..... its mostly the hatch area panels

5.. my door jams sweek when open and closing unless i keep on them constantly with wd-40

6 squeeky brakes, the pads are fine, the just squeek, can figure out why..not low on fluid either..

7. oh yea when i turn to the right lately i get a squeeking from the front wheel, i believe its driver front wheel

i can honestly say that the noises are fine if the truck keeps up running like it has been.

ive got a hum when im idling and thats loud on hot days. and when im accelerating i get a very quiet whisting put it only happens when i press the gas pedal down to a certain spot after that it stops. im pretty sure its a vaccum line or something it doesnt really bother me. speaking of noises related to 4wheeling ive got all sorts or creaks and groans when im offroad.

Exactly. When you wheel you increase component wear by 5 times or more.

91 XLT 4x4 with 155,000 miles and the only thing that doesn't work is the A/C, but thats only because I haven't had coolant in it.

It still tows my jet skis great. Starts and idles perfect. Handles good. Why buy a new one?

The noises and rattles are annoying, but I am not paying 3 or 4 hundred a month for something that would not make noise or rattle, besides it adds character.

Knock on wood.

This has been the best vehicle I have owned.

I hear that.. I like the fact mine is paid for.. no loans to pay everymonth.. WoooHooo.. :) and mine actually is pretty tight yet.. no rattles on the interior.. once I fix the loose exhaust mount and replace the radius arm bushings.. my X will be like new again.. :)
