aldive 06-12-2002, 10:47 PM Go to the factory horn and look at the wires. Use a voltmeter to find the hot wire.
Good luck.........

Good luck......... the hot wire should be obvious, i will have some sort of stripe on it and the ground will be solid.
TarHeel085 06-12-2002, 11:38 PM let us know how loud it is, i wanna get another horn in addition to the stock one.
I wired my aux horn to a separate relay and switch. I didn't want to mess with the factory horn and alarm system. Anyway, after going through 2 sets though, I switched to a single unit aux horn. The compressors and air horns got clogged with dust. Once Moab 2001, and once AZ 2002. Then I just got the electic horn, even though the airhorns were louder and more fun.
jimbo74 06-13-2002, 07:34 PM i ran my pepboy air horn straight off my horn circuit, in the engine bay.... in the engine bay, where the original horn is, there is only 1 wire, it has a standard spade female end on it... i just hooked that up to the new terminals on the new compressor/horn and grounded the other post....
ksaldibar 06-13-2002, 07:58 PM thanks for the help guys, hopefully i'll have time to install it this weekend. i really love this message board.

ksaldibar 06-16-2002, 03:37 PM installing the horn kit was relatively easy. it definitely gets everybody's attention on the road.

duke16 06-16-2002, 04:11 PM What is the best replacment horn? I'm looking for something really load(something to let people know what I think of them what they cut me off), so I guess a air horn would be what I'm looking for. Is that correct? Is there anything special you have to look for what getting a horn?

Adam Berger 06-17-2002, 02:40 AM If you want a REAL horn then I suggest a Train horn. I had (probably still have it somewhere) one on my old car and I tell you, it's the loudest thing you've ever heard. You may have trouble getting one though. I had mine hooked up to a minature air tank with a valve on it. You would pull into a service station and fill it up to 100psi and away you go. It usually got about 4 blasts depending on how long you held it. I never got around to putting a compressor on it. One day I was mucking around with it and pointed it at my car (which was 20m away) and it set off the car alarm from the vibration through the air. It was funny one day driving through a street in Melbourne and having a squirt. Everyone in the street turned around, possibly waiting for a freight train to come though. I think it might be highly illegal (maybe not in the states) and I reckon if you pointed it at someone you would definately deafen them.
duke16 06-17-2002, 02:54 AM where would you mount something like that?
Adam Berger 06-18-2002, 02:40 AM Not sure on an Explorer. There's not much room under the bonnet. It wasn't super big, but bigger than what you'd buy in a shop. I think is was around 12-15 inches long with an opening of around 6-8 inches.
